“Fantastic Family Kayaking Adventure”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

We spent 4 nights on the island with Larry and his crew and took wonderful day trips complete with orcas, humpbacks, elephant seals and even a bear during a lunch excursion! Here's what one member of our group wrote after the trip. I just want to tell you on behalf of our group that the trip was so much more than just a relaxing vacation or a whale watching experience. Beyond the beautiful creatures, the beauty and the time in the wild, it offered a really important time to reflect on our lives and our choices, slow down and connect with our kids, and experience another way to be. You, your staff and guests are all great people. The food was so fresh and healthy. The education about the place and the safety reminders were spot on. You’ve built something beautiful and meaningful. I hope it fulfills you. We’re grateful.

“Orcas Sea Kayak Adventure”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

What makes Discovery Expeditions unique among the outfitters who can put you in close proximity to Orcas, is experience. Larry was there from the beginning and his perspective and knowledge show through each day on the water as well as in the evening conversations around the campfire. He communicates a deep respect for the Orca communities that enriched our experience and hopefully will help ensure the protection of this unique environment for those who come after us.

“Three Days In Paradise”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

We stayed three days in August with Larry and saw Orcas galore right from the beginning. It was the experience of a lifetime when one of the Orcas was diving below my kayak. Not a moment of fear because of Larry's calm and clear instructions. It was already the second time that my girl friend and I booked a trip with Discovery Expeditions because it's just so great to paddle with Larry. His knowledge of whales, nature and history is unbeatable. Moreover, he's a fantastic entertainer, cook and also the king of camp fires :-)
And he always has lots of stories to tell. Not one boring moment!
Unforgettable the way he manoeuvred us through pods of Orcas in a way that even the Strait Watch came to see who was the brilliant guide, although they were already sure that it could only be Larry, as they told us.
He also managed to change Sophia Island into a charming outdoor paradise with kitchen, tents, shower and lavatory without destroying the natural beauty of this place.
Chatting with him at the camp fire about the day or just sit and watch the sundown or listen to the blows of the Orcas - the time with Larry is always something special and truly will always have a place in our hearts. He's not just a guide, he's a friend. Can't wait to paddle with him again one day. Manfred and Christiane, Germany.

“4 days in July”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

Our group had 4 beautiful days and 3 nights on our own island with food and kayak equipment all provided. The whales cooperated and were around while we kayaked with an expert guide who knew the perfect places to take us. The trip to and from Telegraph cove was in Larry's landing craft boat which meant we could take everything we needed to be comfy for our stay on Sophie Island.

“Northcoast kayaking adventure”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

Larry rented us, a group of 8 twenty-something (ish) guys, some sea kayaks for a 4 day excursion through the Broughton Archipelago Marine Park just across from Telegraph Cove. Let me tell you, Larry is fantastic. I think I speak for the group when I say Larry is very knowledgeable of the region and a super laid back guy who just wants you to have the best trip possible. He took us across the straight in is custom made boat carrying all our gear and the kayaks, made a little pit stop to see some humpback whales doing their thing, and dropped us off on an island to share some more stories before departing, only to arrive a few days later at another island to pick us up. Larry has been doing this for a while, and told us all the best spots to check out, things to avoid, all the while making sure we were safe. After talking with Larry, he offers a full range of experiences from the kind of trip we were on, more of a rental and ferry service, right up to fully catered kayaking trip. After the trip, I think we all felt we could look Larry up if we were ever passing though again and share a pint with him. His services are definitely recommended for anyone thinking of a kayaking adventure on the coast. This guy knows his stuff, he's friendly, generous, and its clear he loves what he does.
