We did the morning whale watching tour from Telegraph Cove on July 3 (Jamie's now operates from Telegraph Cove, starting this season). The weather was lovely and the waters were calm. However, the whale sightings were very disappointing...near the start of the tour, we saw one humpback whale, and a few fleeting glances of some dolphins, and that was it for the entire 3-hour tour. We understand that wildlife viewing is very unpredictable, and nothing is guaranteed (we've done several African safaris). However, Telegraph Cove is supposedly a world-class viewing location for whales, so our experience was very disappointing - we expected to see more. Strangely, the guide on the boat (Sharon) told me that she thought the wildlife viewing was "really good". Huh? One whale sighting is "really good"? She then went on to say that the viewing would likely be better in September, so she hoped we could return then. I know that they are new to Telegraph Cove, having replaced the long-standing Stubb's...I'm not sure if their "newness" and perhaps lack of familiarity with the area contributed to the poor viewing experience.

Hello,

We are very sorry to hear that this tour did not meet your expectations. Every tour is unpredictable and different in terms of what can be spotted but we always try our absolute best to offer a great viewing and educational experience for our guests. Just like whale watching anywhere in this region, or the world, sightings are always going to be unpredictable because we are dealing with wild mammals. We will always remain impartial observers as we do not want to influence the behavior of the marine animals in any way.

As we mentioned, every tour is unique and BC is a world renowned location for whale watching, offering beautiful scenery and a variety of wildlife. We want to share this with our guests that come to take a tour with us from all corners of the globe.

I have always wanted to do whale watching some point in my life, and I really wanted to see a Orca. We sadly did not see any orcas during our sailing, but we did see humpbacks, bald eagle, sea lion, seals, and an elephant seal. I wish I could have seen an orca as I have seen the other marine life before except the elephant seal, but it’s all depending on when the orcas chose to come out and show themselves. The staff were friendly, funny and always made sure they answered all questions to the best pf their knowledge. Captain even came down near end of trip to say hi and make sure everyone was happy. Will be coming back to see orcas with this cruise next time

We drove up all the way to telegraph cove to go whale watching with Prince of Whales, and it became the highlight of our trip to the Island. Not only, because we were lucky, to see so much of the beautiful wildlife (we saw several Humpbacks, porpoises, bald eagles, sea lions, minke whales and Orcas!), but also because the whole crew did an amazing job, explaining so much about the animals and the environment. We expected to go out on a 3 hour trip, but the amazing crew (Roman,Rebecca,Sharon,Vanessa,Kiron) made it a 5 hour tour instead. Special thanks to Rebecca, who is not only a wildlife expert, but also a great photographer (I asked her, if she could send me some pictures of the orcas we saw at that day). You can see her pictures below.

So if you are considering doing a whale watching tour on the Island. This is your place to go!

We were out there in Telegraph Cove on one of their Zodiaks with our guide Andy. After 15 min we spotted the first group of orcas, which came very close to our boat. We had plenty of time to take pictures and enjoy the moment. We moved on to the another spot where we could enjoy a group of humpack whales.
Our guide gave us very interesting background information on the whales and the local area. On the side we also spotted seals and eagles.
An awesome trip with an awesome guide!

The list of sightings on this trip is almost endless, with humpback, mink whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, seal lions, ...
After 3 hours the one thing still missing were orca’s ... and the crew went out of it’s way to find them, adding more than 2 hours to the trip with in the end a pod of 5 orca’s !
Before we got back we also witnessed a bait ball festival with over 20 bald eagles joining.
