“Great Spot for a Weekend Getaway!”

Sun Peaks is a mini Whistler and right in our back yard! We loved the Hearthstone Lodge - close to walking paths, right in the Village, close to dining spots and shopping. Loved the Farmers Market on Sunday mornings.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

This was suggested as a stop over for our drive from Jasper to Whistler and we stayed two nights here. At first I felt doubtful of our decision. The resort is very new and was deserted on the (Thursday) night we arrived. However the town soon grew on me.
Although the buildings are all new they blend quite well with the surroundings which are beautiful. We had lovely weather and really enjoyed taking the ski lifts into the mountains for some wonderfully scenic hikes. Our teenagers hired mountain bikes and had an "amazing" day taking the ski lifts and then biking down the varied and exhilarating trails. The staff at the bike hire shop, Elevation, we're really helpful and friendly.
Not many shops were open during the evenings although a few more opened on the Friday and there was more atmosphere. It was pleasant not to have to fight through crowds of people.
I am sure Sun Peaks will become an increasingly popular summer destination and is a great stop over for journeys between Jasper National Park and Whistler or Vancouver.

“A Nice Relaxing Resort Town. Beware of the entry from Chase to it though! ;)”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

My family travelled from Calgary to Sun Peaks (With a Revelstoke stop over) this past July for a bit of relaxation. We researched the location and decided to travel for a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday stay knowing that it would be a down time in the resort.

The entry is free but there is really only 1 road into Sun Peaks! When planning our trip our Ipod's, Smart Phones, and Google told us to get off the #1 highway at Chase and go up to the resort that way. The only tag line was "parts of the road may be seasonally closed". We are no strangers to back roads as we own a Jeep, but it is only 2 wheel and not 4x4.

So we went up to Sun Peaks via the back road from Chase (type Calgary --> Sun Peaks and you'll see the road on google maps). We had almost a single car width wide dirt/stone trail to go up the mountain. Switchbacks with sharp drops down the side of the mountain. Trees that had been burned in a fire..? The best part was the two heards of cattle that we drove through on the way. IF you do go up this way make sure you reset your odometre and pay attention to the KM signs on the side of the road. Nothing else is really marked that well.

Sun Peaks itself was fun. Things tended to open late and close early but we went to hide and recharge our batteries so this was good for us. They had events scheduled for almost every weekend (Costner Band, Geocaching, Biking down the mountain, beer/whiskey fests).. But we just went for the odd hike and relaxing mountain vibes.

Overall it is a good place to go to. Expect crowds on the weekends in summer but it is very quiet on the week days.

The road down to Kamloops was perfect the other way. Paved and pretty. I'd highly recommend that route if you don't have a 4x4.

“Sun Peaks always worth a trip”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

Even in the summer it's worth a trip. We love the hiking. We also had fun on a trail ride followed by an excellent BBQ.

A resort town that is still developing, what has been done so far is excellent. A beautiful place with a bright future.
