We had an awesome stay at Soule Creek lodge. The innkeepers were very welcoming and helpful. Our suite was very nice (we could hear some noise from the dining room, but the lodge was quiet after 9:30pm, so it was not a real problem). We definitely enjoyed the view, the out-door hot tub and the gourmet dinner freshly prepared by the innkeepers!

We stayed in the Yurt of the Setting Sun at the Soule Creek Lodge back in 2006 and had such a wonderful time we talked about going back every year and finally did in 2010, and we were not disappointed. Soule Creek Lodge is truly a "getaway" where the blackberry doesn't work and the setting is beautiful, while at the same time it isn't that hard to get to (a 2hr 20 min drive from Victoria). The Cash brothers are amazing hosts and you would be a fool to eat dinner anywhere else in town. The Yurts have no sound-proofing so you do rely upon your fellow guests to act respectful late at night, and the brothers are great at keeping an eye on things. We can't recommend this place enough and we look forward to yet another trip out to Port Refrew.

We went with another couple, who had found the lodge on the internet, for two nights in the middle of June. Having never stayed in yurt before we weren't sure what to expect but found it absolutely delightful. It was very comfortable, and we slept like logs. The weather wasn't totally cooperative - it was a bit chilly, and I should have turned the heaters on earlier before we got up (we learned the second night). However, the rain held off and I managed to sit outside and read before dinner both days we were there. Fortunately we were asleep when the black bear - and her cubs - visited us the second evening ( as reported by our neighbour in the morning). The food was both outstanding and very reasonable and our hosts - Tim and John - could not have done more for us. A .5' tide at Botanical Beach topped off our stay - we will definitely be back!

My husband my son and I stayed 5 nights at Soule Creek Lodge. We had the Juan de Fuca suite in the lodge. The sitting room of this suite converted into a bedroom for my adult son. The beds are comfortable the bathroom is huge with lots of counter room for 3 people’s toiletries. There is a good supply of linen and hot water.
Breakfast is hearty –just what is needed to give energy for tramping around old growth forest and tidal pools. Dinner is delicious boasting local ingredients-both Jon and Tim are chefs. There is a general store a decent retaurant and a small bistro in town so lunch is not a problem. You need to bring your own wine and beer. The store has a limited selection of Australian wine.
We had no problem with cell phone reception. The wi-fi was slow but it worked.
The view from the lodge is stunning and I enjoyed curling up with a book on the comfy leather sofas in the lounge.
It is a wonderful place to get back in touch with nature combined with comfort-my camping in the wilderness days are over. There is the added luxury of a hot tub to sooth the tired muscles after a long trek.
Jon and Tim are wonderful hosts and can direct guests to the interesting spots to visit.
it is a place to appreciate nature and wildlife I would not recommend it to those looking for nightlife and manufactured amusement.

Soule Creek Lodge is a true get-away-from-it-all spot. Owned by two brothers (two of the most hospitable and gracious hosts that I've had the pleasure of meeting) who are also chefs. If you're looking for a four star resort with uniformed staff and a pristine hotel environment you're not going to be happy here....but if you're looking for a wonderfully unique adventure, in a remote area of Vancouver Island, with a hot tub under the stars, creative fresh meals made with local ingredients, a panoramic postcard worthy view with all the amenities one needs, then this is your place.

My husband loves camping, I love indoor plumbing and fluffy blankets...sleeping in the yurts at Soule Creek Lodge is where we make our compromise. Hardwood floors, a gorgeous view, privacy, a fluffy blanketed dream inducing bed, serenity and a luxurious wilderness experience. We've returned three times over the last four years and it's gotten nothing but better with each visit.

The food prepared by Tim and John has always been a high point of our visits to Port Renfrew. Including in the room/yurt rental is a full service breakfast, with pancakes and eggs to order...coffee, tea, juice...the whole bit. (Infact, I'd like to know where they get their bacon). A fantastic 3-course dinner is offered each evening. I love that food was harvested locally...salmon caught that morning, mushrooms picked in the woods, blackberries mixed into handmade ice cream.

Don't be detoured by the 2km long driveway! There is a shining light at the top of the mountain!

First of all I must say that the outdoor hot tub is great! Set on a deck at the back of the property, the view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca is excellent. We really enjoyed that.

We arrived in Port Renfrew without reservations and called this Lodge from our list in the Tourism BC Approved Accommodation Guide. There were only two listings in the guide. There are lots of other options once you arrive in town.

The property is 2 kilometres up a dirt road on the top of a hill above Port Renfrew. Great views but the road might deter some. There are cabins, yurts and rooms. We got the last available space for the night.

The Lodge was a former hostel and was changed to it's present use. Our room was nice but basic. Simple furnishings, no tv, no phone but wireless internet. Bathroom was nice and large with a walk in shower.

The owners were friendly and the breakfast served in the morning was good.

The main drawback for us was that the rooms are on the first floor and the common room is on the second floor. The building was not built to be sound proof. We could hear everything going on upstairs and all footsteps. I am sure our neighbours got to listen to me snore as my snoring was much louder than their bathroom fan which I could easily hear. Sorry about that. I slept with earplugs in all night.

The location affords great views but is away from the town. I would have fancied being closer to the pub but our family enjoyed a night of games in the upstairs common room.

All in all it was a good place to stay and perhaps better than any other spot in town. The hot tub really was good. But the transparency of the walls and out of town location detracted from my pleasure in being there.

  • Liked — The view from the hot tub!
  • Disliked — Thin walls and floors

Thanks for the feedback. The walls and ceiling of these two rooms Dave talked about have been filled with blown insulation. These are the only two rooms in the Lodge which have shared walls and are priced accordingly. We also now have quiet hours after 10:00pm and the Common Room is also closed after 10:00pm. They still are not soundproof but are better. Our "out of town location" is the reason many guests choose us . No other houses or buildings are visable from our property which sits at 600 ft above sea level and we are removed from the noise of the bars and marina where they start reving the engines at 5:00am to go fishing. As for the road we do our best to keep it in good shape and most don't seem to mind once they see the view of the mountains, ocean and inlet. This year we have also had it widened and graded.

Stayed 3 nights in the Juan de Fuca suite. Very comfortable bed and the bathroom is huge. Extra large tub and 2 sinks. Perfect for 2 people. There is a sitting room with a couch, small fridge and tv, The sitting room opens onto a semi private deck with a great view overlooking the Sraight of Juan de Fuca and the Juan de Fuca river. Breakfast is served every morning 8-9am in the main lodge. There are only 5 tables so you will get to meet the other people staying at the lodge. I learned a lot from talking with the people that know the area. The owners are chefs and also cook your breakfast to order. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, all the good stuff. Dinner was also very good. Local fish was on the menu for our dinner. You have to bring your own beer or wine for dinner. They are not licensed to serve beer or wine. Just stop in Sooke or Victoria on the way up. Great proximity to trails, rocky beaches and the river. Overall the price for the stay and food was comparable to the area. Breakfast is included, dinner was extra. The room was simple but comfortable. The view was fantastic and the service made the stay.
