Bear Ridge Cabins
Reviewed August 5, 2009

We stayed for 2 nights to enjoy the lovely scenery and the great beach in Nakusp. The owners warmly greeted us and explained the area and the cabin.
The cabin was clean and comfortable. Sitting outside in the evening was very peaceful. The cabins were well appointed
they can easily accommodate a large family since they have
2 bedrooms plus a loft that can accommodate up to 3 children, which our kids made great use of.

We've stayed many times in Nakusp for quick overnight trips to visit the wonderful natural hot springs at St. Leon. Previously we've stayed at the hostel, Kuskanux Motel or Selkirk Inn. All were adequate, but the Bear Ridge Cabins are where we will return from now on. We were warmly greeted by the charming couple who are caretaking for the owners this winter. Our cabin (one of only four) was perfect - cozy and clean, with the best bonus - a wood stove! It is also great to have a kitchen, and this one was well-equiped with sink, two-burner cooktop (no oven), mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and plenty of dishes, cutlery, pots, etc. We are hoping to return soon for a longer stay. One night is just not enough to fully relax and explore this area. If you enjoy hiking, snowshoeing or backcountry skiing, make the Bear Ridge Cabins your home base. If you like cozy cabin accommodation, you won't be dissappointed with this place.

We have stayed many times at the Cabins and recommend it highly. The place is by far the nicest spot to stay in Nakusp. We recommend it to every traveler that is looking for a nice, quiet and comfy place to stay. The hosts will make sure there are no late night parties going to make your stay as perfect as it can be. We love the fireplaces in the cabins and all the amenities they offer. The location is great, the closest place to stay to the Hot Springs. The hosts are a great couple, always friendly and hospitable. We can highly recommend the place if you want some relaxing, romantic times.

Martin and Judith are very accomodating and friendly, but... after reading the rules on the internet, getting them verbally when we check in, signing the rules document, and reading the seemingly hundreds of labels posted throughout the cabin - it seemed a bit much. We were there to relax, and this was in no way relaxing. 1)Pets are allowed, but not on the furniture or loose when no one is around - because some guests have alergies. $100 fine. Fair enough, but if they dusted the cabins once in awhile, that would probably help more. 2) Turn the fan on when using the toaster or the smoke alarm goes off. 3) Turn the lights off when not in use. 4)Close the shower door so it doesn't drip on the floor. 5) They are on well water - be aware that flushing the toilet uses 4 gallons (they don't want us to flush?) 6) Each minute of showering uses 5 gallons of water (try cleaning the shower head so it doesn't drip so much) 7)Shoes Off at the door 8)There is a propane BBQ to use, but if you accidently leave the tank on and it drains its a $20 fine 9) Please wash & dry dishes before checking out (again another $ fine) 10) Lights out at 10 pm - any visitors need to be gone by then. 11) Please cook any fish on bbq (watch out for BBQ leaking fine above!) 12)Turn down the thermistat when not in the cabin 13)No strong smells like colognes or antiseptics as the wood cabin absorbs. 14) Never build a roaring fire in the fireplace - use one cube of firestarter and 4 or 5 pieces of kindling Etc. etc. etc. it goes on....
To be fair - you need to have rules, but you're also not going on vacation to stay at your parents house - your there to relax. Being told once is enough, but several times and having everything labelled was a little bit much.
Aside from that, the deck in front was quite small and there is no privacy. If your looking for a bed to sleep in while visiting the Nakusp Hot Springs this place will work for you, otherwise you can do better in the area for places to stay.
