“NEW Silva Bay Restaurant offers food treats, good service”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

Our first visit to the newly opened Silva Bay Restaurant proved a fine experience. We were greeted by a friendly, welcoming service person, and seated in a pleasant venue. Nothing fancy about this place, but nice to find ourselves in a place that features local art to give a sense of place: you are on Gabriola Island. Beautiful big bouquet of local flowers at the welcome desk, jaunty hanging baskets and planters filled with flowers on the deck. Weather was not great today, so we couldn't sit out on the fine outdoor deck looking out at boats docked there and island greenery. The indoor pub atmosphere was fine, not oppressive. (We aren't lovers of pub or pub food, though there is some good pub food here.) Some excitement as the World Cup played on a telly at one end. There is a small stage tucked into the corner near a fireplace, so live music must be on the menu from time to time.
And the menu? We had a fine lunch -- a salade Nicoise with -yes--Nicoise olives--not just black ones, or Kalamata tossed in, with fine fresh vegetables, a light dressing, and perfect tuna; a spicy (not too spicy) kalamari salad, and more good veggies; some excellent fish and chips--golden, crispy, light, with good acompaniments; mussels with some local Slow Rise bread (yum!); fish tacos, and some yam fries. We were all happy.

We have visited Gabriola before, and been to the other restaurant that is run by the people who have taken on this enterprise. The name has not changed, but the management sure has!

“Second visit a winner”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

After a very lackluster meal and poor service during a visit a couple of years ago, we were delighted to hear that the pub had been taken over by the owners of Robert's Place, one of our favourite places on Gabriola. Our second visit could not have been more different : the same glorious view but somehow even more beautiful when coupled with great ambiance, truly excellent food and attentive and welcoming service. A great all-round experience!.

“Great new choices”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

Recently Silva Bay Restaurant/Pub reopened with a new owner, Robert and Partner from Robert's Place also on Gabriola. The menu is fresh and exciting. Unbelievable great service and some of the tastiest food. The beverage menu is very seasonally with a great selection of beer.

“Back in Business”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Up and running again, thank goodness for the Islanders and boating community. Robert has bravely ventured forth and added this location to his other restaurant on Gabriola Island, Robert's Place at the village. We ate lunch outside on the deck last week as a large group. Service was friendly, prompt and very good considering the crowd. I had halibut and chips - first class, halibut serving was generous, with crispy crust, as were the fries, with lots of cole slaw and delicious dip. The others' plates were such that we will return and try others on the menu, but I admit, it's hard for me to pass up fish and chips, especially the way the were done here!
