“Perfect place to stop for food”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

We stopped by FBI looking for a place to have some Fanny Bay oysters in Fanny Bay. We definitely found what we were looking for.

Had the cucumber mignonette oysters, which were very refreshing, and the balsamic oysters, which were tasty. I would like to try the ginger lime oysters next time.

The oyster burger was fresh and was a good size. Along with the seafood chowder as a side, the meal hit the spot. The chowder was full of seafood, not like most places that are full of potatoes.

We also had the four cheese poutine which was delicious. Crispy fries with lots of gravy but it did not drown out the flavours of the different cheeses.

Service was great, very friendly. The seating area was small but the patio looks big. It was too foggy for us to eat outside that day.

“Oysters to dream about!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We had read about Fanny Bay in a brochure, so we tried to time our visit for lunch. We arrived a little late, but were surprised to find they had a beautiful outside garden and were still serving lunch with a crowd still eating. We got our drinks inside and walked out to find a picnic table. There were several servers circulating and one took our orders. I had pan-fried oysters that were the best I have even had. The experience of eating oysters that were fresh, cooked excellently, and served with a smile was wonderful. My friend had fish and chips that he said were wonderful as well. A great lunch stop while exploring Vancouver Island.

“A good supper”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Have been to this establishment before for "naked oysters" which are always wonderful. This time we ordered a hot meal - a Greek dinner with calamari for my spouse and pan fried oysters for me. The food was good, however we did ask for substitutions which did not come. When I pointed out the problem, it was corrected quickly. The fries were absolutely great - hot and not greasy. This is not a 5 star restaurant but it does not advertise itself as such. The food, especially the oysters are very fine and the service is okay as well. A good place to stop on a sunny day for a cold draft and a light meal.

“Pleasant pub lunch”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

As we headed north towards Courtenay on the east coast of Vancouver Island, my husband had a yen for oysters and so we pulled in on a whim at the Fanny Bay Inn. It seemed a dodgy little pub as we entered--dim and rather noisy--but we walked through to a pleasant outdoor area in the back with picnic tables, complete with umbrellas for shade. I had fish and chips, the husband had panfried oysters—plump, juicy, and tender. The chips were the best I’ve had in a long time, and the fish was perfectly done. We washed it down with some icy cold local brew. Delish. The service was fast and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. No complaints at all.

“Getting Service....”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

We went to the Fanny Bay Inn for some appetizers and beer on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It has been a year since out last visit and not much has changed. Really nice outdoor seating area and friendly staff but, as the last visit it was hard to get an order and hard to pay your bill when leaving. The outdoor seating area is a long walk from the bar and kitchen and there were only two servers working. After sitting for 10 minutes were were told by staff that somebody would be with us soon, when nobody came out I went and ordered food and drinks from the bar which then came quickly. As with our last visit, we had to line up at the till to pay. Nice place on a sunny day if they could greet customers when they arrived and have their bills to the table when leaving it would be a pretty perfect little pub.
