The dining area and lodge are situated in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The cliff side view is amazing! We would have loved to of had a waterfront room but they were all taken. The room itself was simple but comfortable.

Room Tip: Request a waterfront room.

Any stress you might have in your life melts away as you enter the resort. The peace and tranquility reaches into your very soul as you take in the viewscape from the dining room, your bedroom, in fact from every part of the resort. The fresh air helps to tire you during the day, preparing you for a relaxing night as you sink into the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. Oh, and should it rain, bring a book, and you can read while listening to the rain fall.

Upon arrival we were shown to our ocean view suite; Wow, Wow, Wow.

The lodge is situated in amongst the most spectacular scenery and the views from the wilderness lodge will take your breath away. Our accommodation was spacious, clean and provided us with peace and tranquillity.

Eating here is a delight, the food is excellent and we were served by three fantastic staff members. Nothing is too much effort or trouble for any staff member. Thank You.

Whilst we stayed here, we did a 2 hour guided Kayak tour with Kathryn. As a water phobic I was nervous about my first Kayak adventure. Kathryn was outstanding in allaying my fears and then taking me out on the water for the most magical and amazing adventure.

Kathryn is a very passionate lady about her place of work, which shines through to you as a guest. Kathryn is a credit to the West Coast Wilderness lodge.

We have been following the lodge and its newest addition on Facebook and we were delighted to meet Paul the owner who showed us around. Paul has invested his heart into this lodge and his passion clearly shines through. They are currently planning to incorporate a spa and I look forward to returning to experience what sounds to be another piece of tranquillity.

I can only describe staying at this lodge as one of the ticks on my bucket list.

My daughter and son-in-law just got married here, and it was absolutely beautiful. I'm putting this in point form because I'm covering several subjects:
Rooms - rustic and spacious. The ocean-view rooms have an amazing view and their own balcony.(you will pay more for the view) The beds are amazing, everyone we talked to raved about them.
Food - not typical hotel food. The wedding dinner was excellent, we also had two buffet breakfasts and one other meal there, the meals very all delicious and fresh.
Location - on the Sunshine Coast, it requires a short ferry ride from Vancouver, and then at least an hour drive from Gibsons. Fantastic scenery, and Gibsons and Sechelt are both great places to visit on the way up.
Technology - no cell phone signal there, and we were told that the WiFi is iffy.
Staff - friendly service
Activities - beautiful hiking close by, and go down to the water to see all the starfish! We didn't have time to rent kayaks, but it's available.
Wedding - they will book the whole resort for you. The big deck is a beautiful spot for the ceremony, and the dining room overlooks the water. There's another (smaller) room downstairs for the reception/dance.
A great experience overall. We may go back again on a vacation.

Room Tip: If you don't mind paying extra for the view rooms, they're awesome.

We recently hosted our wedding - for 82 guests - at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge (Spring, 2012). The venue, the food and the staff (and fortunately, the weather) were all incredible. From the BBQ friday night, the breakfasts Saturday and Sunday mornings, through the reception and plated dinner, they did a fantastic job.

Lodging-wise, the resort was great. The beds are very comfy and overall the rooms are clean and comfortable. I really liked what they'd done with the bathrooms; though the showers could use a little more water pressure (that's just a personal preference thing). You could definitely ask for more lodging capacity - though that's being dealt with -> see below. It was very helpful that they work with the Backeddy (right next door) to help accomodate extra guests.

The main building of the Lodge itself is absolutely beautiful. An incredible, rustic building with a phenomenal view. You really have to go up there to see it in order to believe it. The ambiance on the night of the wedding was very well set - especially since the lodge helped contribute their own candles to the dining room as well as the deck, where they laid out all the muskoka chairs while we were eating.

The staff were amazing enough to open two weeks early on the season to host our wedding - as they had been doing construction on the deck and a new cabin over the winter and weren't planning to open until May. They'd even laid down new paving stones on the paths since we'd last been there in the fall. The work they're doing looks amazing and the lodge will be even better once it's completed.

The only real issue we had (and this is more an artifact of the timing of our wedding - the lodge was closed over the winter after all) was that guests had a hard time reaching the lodge in order to make arrangements for their weekend up there. Once the weekend of the wedding actually arrived and the staff were around full time, things went off without a hitch.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend the West Coast Wilderness Lodge to anyone looking to plan a wedding of up to 120 people.

Room Tip: All the rooms and suites are good - though the ocean view suites in particular are amazing.

Just had the absolute pleasure of visiting this beautiful spot on the Sunshine Coast. Our goal was to find some peace and quiet and enjoy the beauties of nature. There could be no better spot.
While it is the off season, Paul Hansen, the rather wonderful, if somewhat eccentric owner, provided us with a lovely room with a spectacular view of the inlet which the lodge sits upon. Dress warm and there really is nothing finer than sitting on the deck enveloped in silence and a night lit by stars. This is what romance is made of.
We spent much time simply wandering the surrounding rain forest but on one incredible day, Paul offered to take us out kayaking - apparently a very large part of the activities in season. Brisk might be a good word for our time on the water but what a real joy.
As I mentioned it was the off season - the main Lodge itself was closed - so a little self reliance was necessary when it came to food. But a hamper of charcuterie, some cheese, a little refreshment, and what more could one ask for.
We have already booked for this summer and can hardly wait to see this gem when it is fully open for business. If our experience when it was technically closed is anything to go by, then we're sure everything will be spectacular. Our friends who attended a wedding there last summer assured us that you could not ask for anything more.

We hosted our wedding for 100 people at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge, summer 2011. The location is beautiful, and the staff did a great job hosting the welcome BBQ and wedding dinner. However, we had a lot of trouble in the planning stages of our wedding and were left feeling overcharged in spite of everything.

It seems as though the lodge has grown quickly (for weddings, at least) and they are still working out the kinks in their service. There were many errors made along the way leading up to the event, and it became fairly stressful dealing with the staff through email with some big slip ups and oversights. We were told that we were caught in the "learning curve" of their staff, however it was frustrating paying premium rates for sub-par service. We felt like we were paying "luxury" prices, but receiving "wilderness" services; they use both adjectives to describe the lodge, and often switch between the two. We would have been fine with wilderness service and wilderness prices, or vice versa, but it was the high prices and mediocre services that became frustrating. I will save you the details of the challenges, but if other couples would like to benefit from our learnings, DM me and I'd be happy to chat.

The lodge is beautiful and will undoubtedly be a great place to host weddings when they have more experience dealing with the details involved with larger events. I apologize to the owners as I know they won't be thrilled to see this posted, but I do believe that it is a fair and balanced review. Again, the lodge is beautiful, tons of activities in the area, great to have group privacy at the lodge for the wedding weekend, but there are shortcomings to be acknowledged as well.

** Putting 1 star for 'kids activities' because the lodge has no cribs, and 1 high chair, so be prepared if you are traveling with young ones.

Room Tip: Anything with an ocean view is lovely.

We are pleased that you found our location so appealing and were happy with the Welcome BBQ , Wedding Dinner, and the exclusive access that the lodge provides to our wedding clients.

We took responsibility for any per-planning mix-ups with your group and worked to address all concerns as quickly, efficiently and as warmly as possible.

Each wedding is different, as are the expectations of our valued clients. Unfortunately it is rare for any business to offer perfection to all clients all the time despite best efforts and we are no exception. Again, our apologies.

Your comments have been shared with our staff and will be continue to be utilized for training purposes as we move into next season.

Thank you for your feedback.

Sincerely,

Paul
