Backeddy Resort & Marina
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Egmont
Reviewed July 11, 2012

My wife and I have vacationed at the Backeddy the past four consecutive years and have every intention of going back next year. The views are unmatched, the staff is so friendly they feel like family (the good ones - not the crazy uncles), the pub delivers great food, good beer, and A/C to take the edge off those warm days.

The Backeddy experience is casual, comfortable, and relaxed. We found the Backeddy refreshing, rejuvenating, and know you will as well. Enjoy!

Room Tip: There are two brand new cabins right on the water. GORGEOUS accommodations and view!

We started our adventure to the Sunshine Coast on the northern end and at a time when the weather was unseasonal and not many people were on the road. It turned out to be exactly what we were looking for - by the marina for drooling over the boats, a restaurant onsite with a patio that overlooked the water, and a basic room with the essentials. It was very quiet during our overnight stay so we didn't experience the 'paper thin' walls as described in another review. The bed was comfy, the shower had good pressure and the single serving coffee served the purpose. We did sit on our balcony and thought it would have been a little too close for comfort had our neighbours been enjoying their view from the balcony at the same time. An extension of the clematis vine between the rooms would go a long way to creating some privacy! Good value for the money for us...bonus was to learn that we can return with our RV and be right on the ocean!

We took advantage of the great special of $89.00 a couple for accommodation, dinner and brunch and had a small family reunion at the Back Eddy Resort & Marina. Our grown-up kids, & the other members of our party stayed in the cabins and my husband & I stayed in the Inn. The cabins were quaint and comfy with cooking facilities and fireplaces, while the rooms in the Inn were more modern but had larger beds.
We had a lot of fun at the pub, dinner was good ( the special was steak and the portions were generous). The pub regulars welcomed the pool-players in our group to join in and the best part was that no one had to drive home so we could relax and all have a nice glass of wine. We spent most of the evening laughing and talking and then we retired to one of the cabins for more laughing and card playing.
When we arrived it was dark and foggy so we had no idea of the nice surprise we had in store for us in the morning. When we woke up it was a crisp and sunny day and the view was gorgeous. All of the rooms & cabins faced the water and a bustling little marina so we enjoyed our coffee on the deck before heading back to the pub for breakfast.
I see that now the Back Eddy is having another special that includes a trip to Princess Louisa Inlet and so I'm hoping to get the gang together for another mini holiday.

A group of thirteen of us met at the Back Eddy for great food, good conversation, a little dancing, and a whole lotta fun. For $89.00 a couple, we enjoyed an incredibly tasty dinner,a night in our private, rustic cabin, a lovely brunch, and a spectacular view right outside our front door. We sipped early morning coffee (made in our handy little kitchen) on our front deck, and watched as eagles took flight, the fog drifted lazily across the water and friend's pets happily splashed about in the ocean. There is absolutely no better bang for your buck if you want a quick get away for a small group. The pub is inviting, the food is good, and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. The resort is pet friendly, the rooms are clean, and we enjoyed great conversation with both the local "colour" and visiting divers staying at the marina. One of the "regulars" even built our group a roaring bon fire in the common area in front of the cabins after we finished celebrating at the pub. Although the resort is not fancy, it offers everything you would want for a memorable get away and I would not hesitate to visit again.

My wife and I stayed here in March 2012. We stayed in the motel building which has 8 units, as opposed to the cabins. The room itself was not bad; decent bed, clean, fairly new paint & flooring. There was a small bar fridge and a single serve coffee machine (with coffee) in the room. We had two meals (which were included in our package) in the pub. The meals were good, although the selection was small.

HOWEVER. The room walls are thin; we could hear the guy next door snoring all night. The main clients here are young men working as tree planters; they drink beer all evening and get pretty loud. And they get up early. There were five large dogs on the property; friendly dogs, but there was lots of doggie-doo on all the grassed areas. The pub is not very inviting. It was frequently by a strange looking variety of regular "characters". We knew there would be no cell phone service or TV in the room. But the wireless Internet didn't work either.

The only attraction of the area is Skookumchuk Narrows. The trail is LONG. Over 3 km one way. The new museum was closed, although it was advertised to be open on weekends in the winter. We were there on a Sunday through Tuesday - the pub was only open Sat-Sun, as was everything else within 40 km. You can't even buy a coffee or a litre of milk without a very long drive south.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere!

We had a great time, feeling right at home in one of the private cabins, right by the ocean. My wife and I enjoyed a tasty dinner and drinks at the pub (service was excellent, even though it was very busy), then cozied up in the cabin. Brunch was excellent, followed by a walk through a mossy forest close by.
