“Never seen anything like it!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

We came here on our way back from Campbell River, to kill some time before we get back to Nanaimo to hop on the ferry back to Vancouver. The people at the hotel we were staying recommended us to come here, and I am so glad that we came.
Of course the goats on the roof are fun to watch, but please take your time to check out the market itself along with the surrounding shops. The whole place is so unique, so I definitly recommend all to go!!

“A good lunch spot or outing away from Parksville”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

We visited the old country market with our children aged 7 and 9 to view the goats on the roof. Surprisingly, the market selection, food served and surrounding restaurants and ice cream shops stole the show. We definitely recommend making a stop in Coombs. It's fun and the quality of the goods and food served is adequate.

“An old standby...”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I have been camping in the area since before this market ever existed!

And I have to say that it is a cool place to go. It has become more popular over the years. In fact it is so busy that we tend to stay away now. We always make sure to visit at least once to see what new things they have been up to!

Excellent bakery, and lots of fun things to look at. Great deli, and groceries - just very very long line-ups these days. Parking is often a problem as well. Clearly a victim of their own success.

“Eclectic and fun road stop.”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

This market has evolved over the last forty years but has always been known for the goats on the grass roof! Yup- it's true- the goats have little houses on the roof and graze where you can see them and laugh.
Inside the market there are global food products, an incredible cheese and meat counter, dishes, art supplies, hats, toys, wigs- you name it! The bakery has a range of packable products including ham filled croissants, spankopita, meat pies, loaves of every variety, muffins and delectable desserts. There is a cafeteria with indoor and outdoor seating, wheelchair accessible washroom.
Fresh produce has been moved to another building up the road on the same property. You cant walk past the ice cream bar on the way to buy your carrots- there are so many flavours of ice cream !! When we were there there was not a line up, but watch out for the wasps!
What a great road stop for the whole family!

“Yes! Goats on the Roof!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

So much fun to pull up and see goats grazing on the roof of this inviting old building. Inside you don't know which way to look first! All kinds of local and imported groceries, in house bakery, housewares, gifts and toys! An absolutely terrific destination, a fun place where you can spend hours browsing and finding those special one of a kind souvenirs and gifts! Other little shops all around as well for even more shopping fun. Don't miss this place!
