“Dream come true!”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Staying at Dave and Maureen's quaint water-front accommodation proved to be a blessing with the early start on the boat next day. From the cottage deck we spent the evening watching bald eagles up close (and even saw humpback whales make their way past the next day!) We enjoyed a hike up to the forest and wandered around town before enjoying a cold beer under the stars, then a good night's sleep to prepare for the whale watching tour. The next morning we walked the few steps to Dave's sailboat where he made us feel very welcome and safe, providing us with all the right gear to stay warm during the morning chill. Before we even left the jetty, Maureen was sharing her expert knowledge on various whale species and where to look for them. We spotted our first minke whales before we even left Alert Bay. The sailboat was fast enough to cover a sizable area to follow the pods, but blissfully peaceful when the engines were killed and we floated silently waiting for the humpbacks to break the surface. And they did frequently! One even breached right in front of the boat! Great photography, breathtaking scenery and a childhood dream realized that day, all topped off with Maureen's delicious baking. I would return in a heartbeat.

“Seasmoke, Episode II”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

Last August my husband, son, & I went whale watching aboard Seasmoke. This year, our son brought his best friend along and we boarded the Seasmoke from Alder Bay near Telegraph Cove. Heavy waders and jackets are provided in order to deflect the early morning chill off the water. Dave and Maureen are fantastic hosts. Dave captains the craft with ease and grace, and Maureen shares her incredible love and vast knowledge of the resident / transient orcas, as well as the humpback and minke whales. While leaving the harbor, we enjoyed coffee, hot chocolate, and fresh muffins. After viewing orca, whales, sea lions, eagles, sea otters, etc. Maureen prepared Devonshire Tea ~ truly, a treat!! This tour is a must should anyone visit the area.

“Fantastic Experience”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Loved the fact that Seasmoke is a sailing boat and that it only takes around 12 to 14 people. Our experience was one we will never forget. Beautiful glassy waters, majestic orca whales ( including young ones) and great hosts. Maureen, also made us lovely muffins and scones that we ate on board. This would definitely be our pick of the whale watching trips in the Port McNeill - Telegraph Cove area.

“Amazing day with the orcas and humpback whales!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We had an amazing trip and were able to spot not only orcas close to our boat but even spotted humpback whales on our journey as well! Maureen and David go the extra mile to ensure a pleasurable trip. They provided hot chocolate tea or coffee and homemade muffins shortly after taking off and then later on provided hot scones with homemade jam and whipped cream with delicious hot tea. If u are looking for a more personable trip to see whales and orcas then definitely go with the Seasmoke. Maureen has a passion to find the whales and gets just as excited as the rest of us! On our way back Maureen gave information on different types of whales and showed us which orcas we had spotted that day. I would definitely go whale watching again with this boat if I had a chance!
