“Great Lake View Room & Great Guest Service.”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

Great Lake View Room & Great Guest Service.

We have gone to the Mayan Riviera resorts in Mexico in the spring every year for the past 8yrs, but this year we decided to go to a Hot Spring for a change. We chose Ainsworth Hot Spring by the Kootenay Lake with our son’s suggestion, and Ainsworth Motel for our lodging because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed.

Friendly owner/operator “Glen & Elaine” checked us in with Big Hugs. They directed us to many local interests. For example, Pilot Bay Lighthouse - the view was spectacular. Fletcher Creek Fall - a powerful waterfall with a tremendous roar. We caught the longest (35mins) free ferry ride in the world to cross the Kootenay Lake to check out the charming craft village of Crawford Bay.

Our 1st impression of this Motel was the owner takes care of the entire motel very neatly. The Mint condition room was basic but spotless & free Wi-Fi worked well, although the password was too long to input. There was a tiny kitchen in our room and all appliances were functioning well, good enough to make our breakfast every morning. A small fridge making annoying noises all night was the only negative. The Hot Spring Pool/Cave was just a couple minutes walk away; they even offered us a towel for use at the hot spring.

The view of Kootenay Lake and snow-capped Mountains from this motel were spectacular & priceless! Every morning and evening, we took out our drinks to the front balcony (porch?) and enjoyed them with breathtaking views. Driving 10hrs to get there from Vancouver was tiring but well worth it.

The only available restaurant in the hot spring area was the Hot Spring Resort restaurant but it had slow service and un-attractive food. If you want to have a good dinner, you have to drive 45mins to the town of Nelson. We loved the rustic Ainsworth hot spring village with its amazing Lake & Mountains View. Here’s to hoping they continue operating their Ainsworth Motel forever ……………

When we were checking out, they gave us Big Hugs again!
We enjoyed every minute of our 3nights stay.
Thank you, Glen and Elaine!

Nowadays, it is almost impossible to get decent Guest Service from most hotels/resorts but we discovered tasteful guest service at this establishment.

The accommodation was situated so guests have a wonderful view of lake. The room had lots of space with a very comfortable bed, table and chairs and couch. Bathroom was spacious and very clean. The owners gave us a wonderful tip about some falls we greatly enjoyed. I would have given the review a 5 rating, but we were the only guests and at 8 AM they started to clean and fix the room next door. We work very hard at our jobs and were looking forward to a quiet morning in which did not happen. Also the refrigerator turned on and off all night, they let us know how to turn it off in the future. We will stay again and do recommend it.

Room Tip: They all seem to be of excellent view and cleanliness.

We stayed for 3 nights the beginning of April and enjoyed the space very much! Owners are delightful and very helpful with suggestions of where to buy groceries, etc. We had the small house which has one large bedroom with 2 double beds and in the living room area is a queen bed; 2 tvs; a dining area and a huge kitchen! The shower is a bit cramped, but water pressure is great. The wi-fi is only on for restricted periods of time??? but works well. The Ainsworth Hot Springs are just a few minutes up the hill. The lake is right across the road and is lovely to look at and listen to. Traffic was minimal at this time of the year. We will be back! A nice touch was a small "book exchange" library in the office - travellers leave the books they are finished reading and can pick up more!

We heard that this was a great little place to stay, so we booked in for 4 days. The view is beautiful. The room was very clean and comfortable with a bedspread that reminded me of our cottage in Ontario. Elaine and Glen were very very friendly and helpful and respectful of our space. The price was right and it was a nice walk to the Hotsprings. They provided towels for us to take with us, which was wonderful. We will definitely be back!

A quaint small motel. Perfect for our trip to the hot springs. Glen and Elaine are very friendly and accomodating. Gave us sightseeing tips that took us wonderful places we would have missed. Nice view of the lake and mountains. Enjoyed the freedom of having a kitchenette for breakfast and snacks. Didn't have to eat all our meals out. Though I would say we had delicious meals in BC.

I have stayed at this motel for about 6 years running, we always make a trip in the late winter early fall. Super, super clean rooms and grounds! I enjoy BBQ'ing while enjoying the awesome lake and mountain views. We started coming as a couple, then as we got married, and now with 2 little ones! Walking distance to the hot springs....I have stayed at the Ainsworth Hotel and would not recommend over the "motel". The kithenets have everything to make a great meal and save money. Owned and operated by a couple who actually care and have pride in what they do.

Room Tip: Get the big room that is by its self for the most room, large kitchen, dinning are and private deck.

We stopped at the Ainsworth Motel on our way home from a trip to Jasper and Banff. We were planning to stay only one night but enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to stay a second night. The view is amazing and the room was very clean and comfortable. Just a short walk to the hot springs and the rate was half the price of the hot springs resort next door. Loved it and we will definitely be back!
