Reviewed August 7, 2017

We stayed at Viva for 7 nights in august 2017 (couple, 40).
We got there unplanned, as a last minute choice (as our planned stay in Therma Eco was ruined when we got there and realized how bad is it).
We were so lucky that we found a room same day, payed for a normal room and got upgraded to a superior room, if not the best one, 7th floor, last one in the corner - sunrise view from the bed...what could we wish more? :)

Location (7/10) - is not ideal, quite far from the beach, up on the hill, you have to climb down (and up) two sets of stairs to reach sea level street.

Rooms (10/10) - big, spacious, comfortable beds, spotless clean, gorgeous view (I repeat, from 7th floor), big bathroom, modern amenities, cleaned daily

Restaurants and meals (8.5/10) - Main restaurant may seem small at first, but we never had trouble finding a free table, no matter where we wanted to stay, inside or outside near the pool. Meals are very "honest" cooked, grilled meat and vegetables, fish, pasta, pizza, fruit bar, candy bar, salad bar, some cooked meals and other. Everything is tasty and there are options for everyone (including vegetarians like us). Every dinner has a theme (bulgarian, asian, italian, etc) with some "special" dishes from that region. A la carte italian restaurant is ok, we enjoyed our special night there, but nothing too fancy or special (except of course you are served by waiters at the table and the dishes are nicely looking)

Pool and Beach (8/10) - The pool is well maintained, big enough, many sunbeds, free towels for everyone. After 4 pm there is no more sun over the pool and it tends to be quite chill.
The hotel's private beach is unfortunately very far (30' walking), but they have a free shuttle service running from 9 to 18,30 (with a lunch break between 11.30-14.30) every 30'. DO NOT be late! -the bus is swiss clock - at 9.00 sharp it is leaving!! At the beach there is a bar (10.00-16.30) and snacks buffet (11.00-15.30) with meat, vegetables, fruit, icecream etc.

Animation team (10/10)- Great smiling young boys and girls, "chasin"g guests to participate at several activities like : aqua gym, zumba, stretching, boccia, darts, water polo and so on... Great team, always smiling and finding some nice words when interacting with guests, without being intrusive.

Animation shows (7/10) - Every night there is a 30-45' show at the main stage near the pool. We found them average, ok, but nothing spectacular or very original. The management tries to "squeeze" every talent drop from the animation team to make some shows, instead of bringing some professionals to do it. The only night ok was bulgarian folklore night, where professional dancers made a great show!

Service - (10/10) - These guys are amazing. Everyone is smiling at you and do his/her job very scrupulous. We were amazed by a tech guy who came (by mistake) at our room to repair the air conditiong - he spoke a perfect english! A kind word also for the cleaning ladies on the 7th floor - always greeting us with a smile :)
We were particularly impressed by Viktoriya from the beach bar, who was constanly on the move - serving at the bar, cleaning tables, refill the food bowls, checking the donut machine, go into the kitchen and bring fresh food, take away the garbage...she is really incredible - Management staff, please, give her a raise!!

BONUS: free parking, (other hotels in Golden Sands, such as Grifid Metropol, charge up to 10 euro/day), free wifi, 24h fitness centre (first time we encountered this), sauna and jacuzzi included one time, inside bar opened until 00.00, special baby food in sealed jars (wow) at main restaurant

What we didn't like (look at it as some friendly suggestions for management)

- Please, please, please make an effort and buy and air-conditioned shuttle bus! We were taken a sauna everytime we come back from the beach in the afternoon. Although the ride takes only 6-7 minutes, it seems an eternity when there are 45 degrees inside!!

- Please, extend the timetable in the morning and noon. The first bus to the beach should leave at 8.00, or at least 8.30. (we talked to other tourists, especially with little children and they totally agree). 9.00 is simply too late. Also, the last bus at noon should leave the beach around 1,00, not 11,40 as it is now...

- Please, do tell the lifeguards at the pool to help the guests enjoy the pool by applying the rules written there that says - no airbeds and balls in the pool, no jumping. We were quite unhappy to see the lifeguards nonchalantly watching 4-5 people floating on airbeds and thus occupying half of the pool!! Also, we were hit by the balls thrown by others while inside the pool! Not ok!

- Please, upgrade the shows a little . They are really so ...outdated and weak

Conclusion: We enjoyed very much our stay (altghough we had to pay 60 leva for 2 lost towels - we forgot them at the beach....) and we highly recommend this place!

Room Tip: best rooms are the rooms with seaview, 7th floor!

They know how to treat their clients: they are very kind and respectful. You have everything you need, from fresh fruits, desserts...meat dishes, pastas...Also they have dinner themes - we had the italian and japanesse dinners. The staff have a positive attitude.

Room Tip: The rooms with pool view are more noisy than the others (parking view)

The review relates to the 2 nights/ 3 days spent at the hotel and to the past experiences in Golden Sands (Melia Grand Hermitage - 5 *, flawless, and lti Dolce Vita Sunshine Resort - also classified as 4* as Viva Club, but a very uninspired choice compared to Viva).
As a general impression, the hotel honors the 4 stars and the numerous prizes acquired over time.
ACCOMMODATION - room no. 707, superior double with sea view (bonus upgrade on behalf of the hotel). Very spacious room, immaculate linen, pillows and mattress of very good quality. Cleaning is done to the smallest detail. Air conditioning works perfectly, many international TV stations can be found on TV. The mini bar is free of charge and includes a bottle of 2l of water, 2 beer doses and 2 boxes of natural juice/ stay. Safety deposit box available for a fee. The bathroom is also very clean and spacious, it offers soap, shower gel, shower cap, hair dryer. Towels change every day, although I didn't place any on the floor to be changed. The balcony of the superior room is double that of the standard room, it has a table + 2 chairs and a clothes dryer.
ALL INCLUSIVE MEALS - in terms of variety and taste of preparations, I don't think anyone can ever complain. For BREAKFAST (07:30-10:00) there are 10 dishes of meat products, 10 kinds of cheese and yellow cheese, 3-4 kinds of olives, 6 salads and dressings, fresh vegetables, eggs (boiled, fried, scrambled, cheese french omelette), fried sausages (3 sorts), fried bacon, wursts, liver pate, beans, pancakes, 5 kinds of jam and chocolate equivalent Nutella, cereals, yoghurt, milk, croissants, pies and pastries (6 assortments), fried bread, donuts, fresh and dried fruits (10 assortments in total), tea, milk, coffee (espresso and filter, I recommend the latter), soft drinks (Coca-Cola range) and natural juices (RAUCH). LUNCH and DINNER (12:00-14:00 and 18:00-21:00) include 2 kinds of soup, 7-9 grilled or baked meat (chicken, turkey, duck, beef, pork, rabbit, lamb), fish and seafood, pasta, lasagna, pizza, 6 kinds of garnish (rice, potatoes, vegetables), 10-12 salad assortments, various desserts (cakes, mousses, cookies), fresh and dried fruits, ice cream (5 assortments), coffee, juices (natural and soft drinks), water, wine, beer (Beck's). For babies, fruit purees (4 assortments) are provided. All products are delicious, of good quality and enough quantity. All beverages are at the dispenser, but they also are of good quality. Meals can be served either in the main restaurant or on the terrace by the pool. Breakfast can be continued at the Snack Bar after 10:00. Snack Bar is also open between meals and provides grilled meat dishes, pizza, garnishes, salads, desserts, ice cream. The bars (Lobby Bar 08:00-00:00 and Pool Bar 10:00-23:00) offer coffee, juices, alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, wine, beer.
SERVICES - all staff is well prepared and trained to offer quality services to tourists. Fast check-in and check-out, thorough cleaning, table clean-up and service (a la carte restaurant) very prompt, very friendly bartenders. I want to highlight the professionalism shown by the receptionists - they are very nice, smiley, manage quickly and correctly any problem of the client. The fitness room is quite small, equipped with 10 appliances, and access is free of charge. Sauna is free of charge only 1h/person for minimum 7 nights stay. Otherwise, all the services of the SPA center (sauna, jacuzzi, massage) are offered for a fee. Parking is free and guarded; there are areas where it packs 3 rows, so you may be called to move your car. But there is the same problem at Grifid hotels, and there parking costs 20 leva/day... . The swimming pool is clean and tidy, the sunbeds, mattresses and towels are in good condition.
The animation team is committed to offering diverse and interactive activities throughout the day. For free transportation to the hotel's private beach (Mirage Beach, located in front of the Luna Hotel), there's a Shuttle Bus (not minibus, as mentioned in other reviews) that runs 30 to 30 minutes starting 09:00 o'clock, with a lunch break. It can also be accessed by car, but it is very difficult to find a parking space. Any car left elsewhere than in the public parking or that doesn't have a receipt showing the parking fee is picked up. Snacks (10:00-15:30) and beverages (10:00-16:30) are served at the Beach Bar.

To conclude with, I totally recommend this hotel and I think it can easily meet the expectations and requests of most tourists. Good value for money.

Room Tip: Best rooms offering large views over the Black Sea are on the 7th and 8th level.
