“Good location, good food, lovely pool”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

We spent 9 nights in this hotel and everything was above expectations. This resort is really worth the money, many people are afraid of Bulgaria, but it is better than most parts of Greece or Spain. Newly built hotels everywhere, good location, lovely beach 3 mins from the hotel. Tha food was always fresh and perfect, lots of fish and salad, (what I like), but meat also plenty. We did not go AI, but in the apt. we had all cooking accessories and fridge, which served us well. From the hotel there is a free shuttle to Varna Grand Mall, comfortable and air conned. The rooms are modernly furnished, spacious, lovely bathroom. The only downside of the hotel is that it is quite noisy at night. There is no night bar or so, but people are not told off when jumping in the pool drunk at 4 a.m. and if you like to sleep at open window you can not. If you are ok. with air condition when sleeping, this can cause no problem. Theer are Not many English people in the resort or in the hotel, mainly eastern-Europeans and a couple of German (But they are the noisiest).

Room Tip: 5th or 6th floor apartements in the medium wing towards the pool.

Studio rooms are big, not sterile clean, but ok. Pool is big, and is wonderful for bigger children (depth 145cm). Kids pool is 70cm deep. WARNING! Massage center in hotel SPA area (Mr.Kirov) is not recommended for women: it was not professional - the discusting man tried to touch inpropriate way under my underwear several times and even put my hands to his private areas while doing the massage for my hands and shoulders. I did a report to the hotel but I assume he continues his business anyway.

Sorry for who already buy a vacantion in this seson at this hotel... Rooms are spacious, bathroom was clean at begining, but when I took a shower, a real mess on the floor, floor without drain. The light in rooms are very poor.
Abouth the restaurant... no different from a canteen... there was 2 main dishes with 2 seals always, 4-5 type of salads, some cake and ice cream.
Abouth bar... nothing to say. All inclusive that we had, was limited to drinks from dispenser, nothing bottled.

We (2 adults and 1 children) stayed at the Golden Yavor hotel in September 2010. Good hotel, decent sized family apartaments, conveniently located just 5 minutes from the beach. The hotel is in a central area so it's necessary to travel for entertainment.
Our room was very nice with a view over the sea front.
The staff was very courteous and helpful.
Great, big and clean outdoor pool. Pool area well maintained.
Buffet Breakfast was good with buffet dinner in the evenng.
Overall impression is of a good hotel, recommended and ideal for a relaxing break.

I spent 2 weeks in this hotel with spouse and 2 kids since Aug 16 till August 30, 2010.

There are many deficiencies in this hotel:
- the bathroom ceilings show the spots from the leakage, in the room number 602 there was even a mold on the bathroom ceiling. Due to that and poor conditioner there was a bad smell into the room,
- the water soaks from beneath of the bath so the floor in the bath may be wet,
- the carpeting material in the rooms, corridors has dirty stains,
- the loud music may play until 2 am until you go to reception and reprimand them,
- the air conditioning system seems not to be adequate. It is interesting enough that manager of the hotel recognized the fact of the poorly workin air conditioning system by installing individual conditioners in his room and in the reception staff room,
- when we did a check-out we found that there came a wrong charge to our account for Coke and beer which we did not consume,

We addressed all the issues to deputy manager of the hotel in a straightforward manner. He was receptive and helped us to change the room and manage the music.

We took only breakfasts. They were eatable but not that delicious. We experienced the enteric infection though I cannot say for sure it was due to the hotel restaurant.

The Golden Sands resort is overcrowded, the beaches are full of the people. Bulgarian government leased beach space to concessioners so they placed their sun umbrellas and mattresses on the beach taking all the place on the beach. If you do not want to pay to the concessioners they will force you out of the paid zone even if you do not lie under their umbrella (we experienced that).

Overall I would not recommend this hotel. It is below 2* if measured according to the US standards and below 3* if measured according to the EU standards. If you are used to some level of service you will not be happy with the quality of the rooms and the service.

My Girlfriend and I arrived in Golden Sands not knowing what to expect from the hotel as we booked it last minute but we were pleasantly surprised by the Golden Yavor. We had a studio which consisted of two main rooms. One large lounge / kitchen with a small toilet and a bedroom with a large bathroom. We had a pool view and two balconies which we used to people watch whilst having lunch. The self catering facilities were good but there was no kettle. We just used the stove to boil water in a pan for cups of tea. We were on the 3rd floor (3th floor as it was maked on the stairway) which was great as the ground floor might have been a bit too noisy in the mornings, being next to the pool. The breakfast was ok, not what we're used to but we certainly made do. The best thing about the Hotel was that there were no English people there. We felt perfectly relaxed talking about anything at all, safe in the knowledge that nobody could understand us. Golden Sands was not a popular destination for the English at all whilst we were there. Probably because the exchange rate made everything really expensive. The food (as you'll read in a lot of reviews about Bulgaria) was not great. We found one traditional Bulgarian restaurant which did some great dishes but in general the food was poor. We didn't let it stop us from trying new things though. One downside of the hotel is that you have to pay an extortionate 50 lev for the safety deposit box for a week. I always use the safe in hotels but have never been charged this much!

I would definitely recommend a trip to Varna during your stay as we found some really cheap restaurants there and the shops were much better priced than in Golden Sands.

All in all we had a lovely holiday. The waves on the beach and the big (normally quiet) pool made up for the poor food and expensive prices.

Recently came back from this hotel/apartment in the purpose built area of Golden Sands. My husband, myself and a 16 and 10 year old. Had a fantastic holiday. I think because we had heard that to eat and drink in Bulgaria was cheap that we were perhaps expecting it to be a bit dirty/tacky etc. However, the area is spotless, with the main streets being cleaned daily. The apartment itself was really spacious and cleaned daily. Drinks and food were cheap- cocktails working out at about £1.40, beer even less. There are a variety of watersports on offer at the beach- we tried parasailing as it was so cheap and all four of us had a go for about £60 (that's only 15 quid per person if you went up in pairs)
The beach is lovely - although you do have to pay for sunloungers and umbrellas. These are free at the hotel and the pool is huge and clean. We never once had to put towels on a sunbed at the hotel - they have a no towel policy which seems to actually be implemented.
The only slightly irritating thing was that they stop you frequently outside the restaurants/bars etc to talk you in/give you leaflets - However, we found the local people really friendly and you can appreciate that it is their job to do this.
Even my teenage daughter enjoyed herself- although she has said that next time she comes she is going with her friends as the nightlife looked great for them. Although this was not in your face- there were not gangs of lads/gals at all.
We have all agreed that we would definitely go back- I would recommend that you go self catering as the food is so cheap and there is plenty of choice

  • Liked — cleanliness- and the towel designs left by the cleaners
  • Disliked — had to pay to use hotel gym/indoor pool
