Sunshine Magnolia & Spa
Ranked #59 of 112 Hotels in Golden Sands
Reviewed June 2, 2014

So, I went there 5 years ago, so in my memory this hotel remained as one of the best hotels I've ever visited.
The stuff was really nice and the parties were a lot of fun every night. Despite the fact that there were a lot of Germans I found a good company of Russian stuffs.
Also kitchen is one of the most delicious I'd ever tried, a variety of dishes with veges and fruits, a lot of different meat courses and different desserts at any taste.
The location is quite good, but I'd prefer more crowded zone, such as in the center of Golden Sands.
I do recommend this hotel for family trips.

This hotel is also shown on Tripadvisorwith with its old name `Primasol Magnolia and Spa` and as I read the reviews they concerne the same horror hotel - Magnolia. I wrote a review there and i don`t want to repeat again.
In short, Magnolia is a total disaster in every way - rooms, food, pool. The crooks also charged me extra when i cancelled the stay after that one night nightmare i`ve had there.
Terrible, do not go!!!

Room Tip: No tip - everything is awful. Don`t go!

Stay away from this horror!
I was supposed to stay 10 nights at this hotel but stayed only 1 night because of the terrible conditions. Rooms have no airconditioning - aircon is set on fan mode, we got room for two but at the end were charged as we had room for 4. There was no fridge neither was any sign of wifi throughout whole hotel. We made the booking through booking.com(the total sum was 1000 eur) and we needed to pay for the first two nights if canceled(200 eur) but the manager of the hotel that we didn`t had chance to meet told simply by the phone that we have to pay 250eur(125 eur for a night)because we were like with 2 children(we got the lousiest room in my whole life-room for 2 ) and insisted on us to pay in cash! Crooks!
The dinner was more than poor, whole-peeled cheap salami, cheap cheese, suspicious looking sausages...old bread is included in this so called `all inclusive` - drinks served in small plastic `glasses`...miserable, terrible! Pools are filthy, smell like s..t, and the sea which is full of algae is down by some 200m - oh, they charge the sunbeds in this `all inclusive` misery!
I dont have the words to explain how bad this hotel is!
I am writting this review so i could prevent someone else to agonise in this horrible leftover of the communist era!
My worst hotel experience in my life!
Awful!!! Caution - stay away !!!

Room Tip: Do not go, save your money there is much better choice around. There are no good rooms here.

We went thinking the hotel was in golden sands ( it is 10 km away, 17 km if u get a 30 lev 'rip off taxi' from golden sands.. Always agree a price first. The 2 hotel taxi drivers were great! (Romen & Nasko)
And very cheap ( 100 lev for half a day taxi'ing) hotel clean, food average, but always fresh & hot, good selection . No lifts and there are stairs everywhere (no good if you struggle with stairs, they are everywhere) a lot of Russians & germans.. Our room was brilliant, it had seaview 3 balconies (think it was a suite) room 223 living room and bedroom, worth asking for this room. Would go again if it was moved nearer to golden sands. Ok if you want early nights .

I was 2 times to this hotel but I am not positive I will go once again. As it can be guessed, negative things made me write this review. For those who will go there, please pay attention when you buy the tickets which hotel you will receive the room: Magnolia 1 or Magnolia 2? Sea view or NO view(I mean something like a wall, a black roof, or a ruin). Lets tell from my experience! Magnolia 1 has an not very good smell, smells like humidity. Even the sheets gave me the feeling that they were wet. I had no view, and the room was the last in the very narrow corridor.(I can not sdand narrow ways). So I did not sleep well in this room, it was cold, because of the sheets and air. So went to reception and asked another room, but in Magnolia 2, because this hotel is much better. The lady was not very kind, and repeated that they do not have free rooms. Only a discussion with the manager helped us to move. Magnolia 2 smells good, dry air and nice dry sensation sheets. But of course NO VIEW. View was in a black roof. The boy who helped with the luggage had 2 keys in the pocked. One was from a sea view room and another form no view room. By mistacke he was about to give us the sea view room, but he suddenly realized and changed it. Question : What should we have done to receive that room? The boy was telling in a bad english someting about if we need to change money he can help us?!? Excange was in the hotel, why to give the money to him to change? This matter I did not understand. We were happy we got rid of Magnolia 1.
The pool in Magnolia 1 is not very attractive. Of course you have the right to go to the Magnolia 2 pool, but they are not so very closed. The food is ok, but during 5 days some same meals were served twice others DAILY the same. The ice cream is ok, drinks ok, coffee not very good. Beach is not far as it is said. You can easily go to the beach, and good thing is all inclusive on the beach. But attention at the beach you have to pay the chair 4 LV and the bounce 2 LV/day. At the pool chair is free but no bounce. Parking is free but not fenced. Tennis you can play if you have your rockets, otherwise I do not know, you have to ask. Fitness room is not very good equiped. Animation team in 2008 was better than 2010. This year was a little bit boring.Bar at the pool was closed one day, and ice cream closed one day for many hours. One good thing is that at this hotel is quiet and people who come here are educated. Even if 4 stars they have plastics chairs and tables outside, this should be changed.

We have just returned from a week's AI stay at the Magnolia Hotel & Spa in Golden Sands. (4 adults two 20's and two 40's).Our first impression was that the hotel was very attractive, our rooms were lovely and the beach was beautiful. We had great luck with the weather until our last day.

However the food in the hotel was awful. We are not a fussy family and look forward to trying local and traditional foods. However every day was the same. Breakfast:eggs, frankfurters and pasta. Also some cold meat and cheese - which was usually surrounded by flies. Dinner was no better - usually what ever was left over from the pool snack bar - more sausages, cold chips. Unfortunately, 2 out of 4 of us ended up with a stomach bug. The meat was often under cooked - sauages with blood and veins inside. We decided to let the manager know as a lot of people we met were experiencing the same problems - but felt unable to complain. However he was most offended and said it was the way food was cooked in Bulgaria and he wouldn't come to Britain to tell us how to cook.

We were disappointed with his response - and pointed out that pork shouldn't be raw and bloody - no matter where you live. He said he'd look into it - but never got back to us. We ended up taking a taxi into golden sands (no restaurants in area - taxi cost around 10-15 lev - don't pay any more).
Summary:
Hotel - lovely
Staff - most unhelpful/unfriendly
Food - Disgusting (helpful if you want to lose weight)
Area - NOT in Golden Sands - on outskirts with nothing to do. But centre easy to get to by bus, taxi or 40 min walk.
Overall - would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Very few British people here and hotel staff friendlier to German people (all written info in German) - but most Germans we spoke with also hated the food and vowed never to return.
If you've booked this - sorry - but try to make the most of it. Be prepared to eat out. However, rooms are lovely and clean, view great - but take plenty of spare undies and medicine.(AI booze also grim - watered down wine and beer - but plenty of supermarkets)
Give this place 2/10.
