“Best we have stayed at”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Arrived at hotel 5th July 13 for 7 nights, The hotel is set in the quiet end of Sunny Beach which was a bonus. View from our room was not sea view but was not bad could see khans tent and hills. Room was exceptionally clean and tidy with carpet which was hoovered every day and free air-con. Twin beds pushed together were solid and comfortable, we had our 17yr old in with us on 3rd armchair/bed ample sized for an adult. Towels changed everyday, sheets a few times. Pool towels provided and able to change everyday if wanted.
Free fridge in room and tv. Hairdryer in bathroom.
I have never seen so many cleaners in a hotel who are most friendly and never stop working and not grumpy with it. Not a piece of rubbish insight on the whole complex.
Restaurant a free for all as most large hotels are but food fantastic. So many different dishes available that we were quite greedy in trying lots but could have something different every night. Cooked well, hot, presented well. Yes we had to queue at times but thats the holidaymakers fault not the hotel. Look for the carved melons every meal, also did a sushi bar twice a week and you get a free evening meal at the Bulgarian restaurant on site if Half Board. Waiter service in restaurant was good, not many speak fluent english but are very helpful and friendly. We read reports of grumpy staff - we never saw one. Animation staff the usual self taught routines but not boring and entertained most of the day and evening. Enormous pool area consisting of two large pools, cushioned sunbeds and an umberella per 2 beds, usual towel syndrome from 7.30 am or earlier. Beach was about 10 metres from hotel grounds so just walked barefoot from pool area to beach and back. Already looking to book again for next year.

Stayed here june July 2013 on our honeymoon and we we were well impressed lovely and clean all round , room was very spacious with outstanding view overlooking the pools and beach .rooms cleaned and fresh towels every day .we were half board and found the food to be excellent plenty of choices for even a fussy eater .the only downfall was our flight times home but thats not the hotels fault, so overall I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone

Just got back from a week at this fabulous hotel. Immaculately clean throughout inside and out 24/7 - unbelievable choice of food at every course - enough choice for even the fussiest eater to find something to eat both at breakfast and evening meal. Entertainment was varied and would suit all ages at various times of the week - but there is plenty of noise entertainment for those that like it. The staff work tirelessly at all levels. Whether that be the army of cleaners that clean the whole site constantly throughout the day or the animation team or the bar and restaurant staff. Frankly if you want UK tv UK food and to be in a hotel full of UK people then stay at home: if you want to feel that you are in a foreign country and to experience a taste of other cultures then this hotel will not disappoint - embrace cultural differences - if there are small differences in the way we do things it definitely is not nough to spoil the holiday. We were a middle aged couple of like a quiet relaxed holiday with a bit of lively thrown in - cant fault this hotel ascitbticksvall boxes. We have stayed in many many hotels of 4 star plus and this is definitely the best we have experienced - both as a package holiday and as independent travellers and on city break and sun holidays - our advice? Don't hunk twice - just book it :-)

The Majestic was just superb. It's a big Hotel with bags of space for lounging around and loads of facilities - a couple of Restaurants, Pool Tables, Internet Room, Wi-fi Etc. We don't tend to hang about our hotel when on holiday, preferring to get out and about and we found overall that that was the right choice at the Majestic as there really wasn't anything that made us want to stay in. A great base but not a centre for entertainment. One disappointment was that although there's a telly in the room it wasn't tuned in to pick up any UK Stations but catered mainly for Bulgarian and Russian guests, the best available was Euronews and the History Channel. Food was plentiful and well cooked and presented however even after only a couple of days we found it much of a muchness and started to eat out. The dishes consisted mainly of 'Beef', Chicken, Pork, Mushrooms and Onions. Salad was plentiful so with a bit of mix n match a decent meal was easily had.

Down at the pools we found that there was little chance of getting a sunbed as they were getting 'booked' by the towel brigade from as early as Six a.m. and all gone by Nine, the time we were getting out and about. Other entertainment was lacking we found. There is a show in the evenings from about 21:30 however we were out and about by this time so never got to catch it. There was a guy playing (bluesy) guitar music and singing, and he was very good but we didn't want to listen to the same thing every evening. There was also a Karaoke a couple of nights, we reckoned the KJ favoured the Russian and Bulgarian guests over anyone else. We thought the hotel would have benefitted from having a Disco which catered for a mix of age groups, and were surprised that the Hotel management didn't seem to try to keep guest inhouse in the evenings by providing better entertainment overall.

Sunny Beach itself seems still to be pretty tacky and reminded us of spanish resorts about 20 - 30 years ago. The walk to the centre of the resort is busy and lined with bars, restaurants and tacky souvenir shops. One place to avoid is the Wild West Shooting Gallery, the owner is a rip off merchant. Should you stop by this DO NOT accept a 'go' if he thrusts a Gun into your hand. He will continually reload until you realise that the 'free go' has become something more and query it by which time he will bang you for anything up to 100 Leva. If you do decide to have a go (and it is exceptionally tempting for the kids) make sure you know the price BEFORE you accept.

Overall we enjoyed Sunny Beach. We did a lot of walking and seen just about what was to be seen and will certainly recommend both the resort and the Majestic Hotel. We enjoyed an evening at Khans Tent (which we booked through the Thompsons Rep Sarah, who was excellent) although to be honest the food was a bit of a let down and reminded us of Asdas' cook in the tray Chicken dishes !. Entertainment at Khans was good and overall the evening was good value. Old Nessebar was a nice place to visit although I don't think I've ever been anywhere with such a concentration of souvenir shops!. There's lots of eateries to have a meal or just a refreshing drink. To get there we got a very pleasant 20 minute boat trip from Sunny Beaches Central Pier for 10 Lev per head, and on the way back a local Bus for 1 Leva, the fare for all local trips, be aware though that the local buses are very busy most of the time. On Tipping - the workers will really appreciate a decent tip as their wages are exceptionally poor, one girl we spoke to was on 3 Lev per hour (about £1:25). We were unsure about how much to tip so settled on about 10% or 5 Leva depending on what we were doing although I still don't know if that was enough or too much !.

In conclusion Sunny Beach was very enjoyable. It had a good range of age groups, lots to do and things to see. Visit the Waterpark at Nessebar, it might seem expensive but with food and drink prices comparable to outside we found it really good value for a good fun day out. Visit Old Nessebar as described above, a good English Breakfast is to be had at the Star Inn on the Strip, quality well cooked food and excellent staff, stop off for a drink or an evening meal at the A La'carte restaurant at the Globus Hotel on the strip, Billy the PR although Bulgarian will soon be speaking to you in your own accent and dialect !. We visited the Jamboree Karaoke Pub and had a really good night. It has a Scottish KJ ,a good range of songs and a good crowd making a very enjoyable evening. Try a fresh cooked Pancake from one of the many stalls and have a go on the electric scooters although be aware that you are limited to where you can ride them, a penalty of 50 Leva is imposed by the Police and wardens for riding them on the walkways and beach alleys. Lastly, and again, stay away from the Wild West Shooting Gallery !.

Back to the Majestic, it is a smashing place overall despite being lacking in entertainment. Remember that you will share it with an abundance of other nationalities so don't expect it to be 'Anglocentric' by any measure. It's also worth paying extra for a room with a sea view and preferably higher up (it's got twelve floors) as the view from higher rooms is stunning.

Enjoy your holiday

Just got back from a week here with my friend. Nicest hotel that both of us have stayed at. Even though we'd booked a twin we were upgraded to a studio on arrival. unfortunately this had a double bed! we told management we wanted a twin room but the only one available at the time was one with a nest in the balcony so we persevered for the week and put pillows down the middle of the bed! excellent variety of food (could explain why I put on 6lb!!). immaculately clean rooms, restaurant and pool area. seriously couldn't fault the place....apart from the Germans!

We stayed here for a week at the end of June. Two couples flew out and arrived in the early hours of Tuesday morning. We were initially given rooms on different floors but after requesting to be next to each other, they sorted it out.
The hotel was probably the nicest I have stayed in. Rooms were of a good size and came with free air con, a TV and a fridge as well as the usual furniture. The beds were comfy and the free air con was a big plus! If traveling with kids, you might want to watch the TV as there was a lot of fairly hardcore stuff on about half the channels in both our rooms! There was a safe, it was about £20 fort the week I think.

The pools are brilliant. We didn't struggle to get 4 sunbeds together despite coming down at varying times each day. The pool bar and the lobby bar are both open 24 hours which was also a bonus. You can play with balls/use lilos etc in the pool no problem. There is a nigh on permanent happy hour at the bar, 2 cocktails for the price of 1. It was around 10lev for a cocktail, so when getting the BOGOF offer, you were paying about £2.40 for a drink. A pint of beer is 4lev, so about £1.80...Much cheaper than back home but there were cheaper places if you went up the road.

We had another couple staying in a different hotel and they spent most of the holiday at our hotel with no problems.

I am probably the fussiest eater in the world. I ate in the restaurant a couple of nights but I wasn't mad keen on it. I can though appreciate that for 99% of the world, it was cracking. There was tonnes of different stuff and it seemed to change every day. If you are in the same 1% as me, McDonalds and Subway are about 15 minutes away. There is a kebab shop a 60 second walk from the hotel, the lads who do the night shift there were sound!

The staff at the pool bar were excellent, very friendly. The cleaners were friendly, the reception staff as well. The only people we came across that were rude was a waiter in the restaurant with a bit of an attitude problem and some of the other guests. The English were certainly a minority in this hotel and it certainly made me consider that manners work in a very different way in other countries....lol.

The main drinking strip is about a 25-30 minute walk when sober...Try an hour when walking back, getting food and so on! Plenty of shops on the way up selling tonnes of fake designer gear.
We tended to stop off in a bar or two on the beachfront on the way up to break up the journey. There are some decent places to have a cocktail..And that's pretty much all we drank while we were here as it was so much cheaper than anything else.

I would say the strip (Flower Street) was aimed more at groups of lads or girls rather than couples but we still had a good laugh. Would highly recommend a bar called Amigos which is just at the end of the strip with a pink vintage car outside. Would recommend avoiding Coyote Ugly. One of our lot ordered a Long Island Ice Tea and got a bottle of Ice Tea! When we tried to explain the mistake, we got a rude and hostile response!

Walking back from the strip was fine but I wouldn't have liked to do it on my own when drunk....Plenty of dodgy characters knocking about.

Pretty much all the bars charge you half a lev to use the toilet so try and keep change with you at all times!

Back to the hotel itself, it had a well equipped gym compared to what I am used to from a hotel. We used it a few times and it had free weights (Max 25kg), a pull up/dips bar, a lat pulldown, a couple of chest machines and a shoulder machine...In addition to a couple of treadmills/bikes.
There was a spa which looked very nice. We intended to have a massage and Turkish bath but just never got round to it. It was reasonably priced though and well worth a look.

The shop sold lilos but not balls. 20 Lambert is about £2.40. I normally smoke Embassy but they don't sell them anywhere in Bulgaria that I saw! Bensons/Marlboro were available alongside the local stuff. 200 fags at the airport on the way back worked out at about £25. You can bring 800 per person back. I couldn't find this information anywhere online for sure so i think that is VERY IMPORTANT to know...As I would have loved to see a review with confirmation on here!

I would highly recommend the Neon Party if you are there to party. Meeting 8PM on Thursdays at the bottom of Flower Street, you get a 2-3 hour boat party followed by free entrance to Disco Orange where you get neon paint dumped all over your head. It cost 33lev and Disco Orange was 35lev entrance on it's own with no neon party so well worth it! That was the only excursion we did but everyone seems to rave about Khans Tent.

One minor thing....The airport in Bourgas is a right dive! We saw mice running around when we landed. When we were waiting to fly back, once through security it was like a refugee camp! There was a tiny McDonalds that sold two products, a Costa Coffee and a couple of local shops. There were probably a thousand people crammed into an area the size of a large school hall and there were about 150 seats to go round everybody....People were battling for chairs ha! Minor thing though, Sunny Beach itself was a lot nicer than we expected...Not run down at all!

Overall I thought the hotel was great, Bulgaria was nice and we were lucky to have great weather...It was above 30 degrees every day. On the whole I prefer Spain but you get more for your money here!
If you are going to Bulgaria with the family, this is a great hotel. If it's a big group of friends going out on the lash you are a 15lev taxi ride from the strip or a long walk. If I went with the boys, I would probably have wanted to stay somewhere a bit closer to the action.

Just got back from Sunny Beach, stayed two weeks with my wife, we both could have stayed for another two.

The hotel we found to be very good in all areas, super sea view from room, excellent maid service, very good food.

Have stayed in RIU, Luabay, and Iberostar on previous occasions and can honestly say that during our stay there was plenty of choice, always hot and of good quality. Not always the case in the other three. Yes it does get a bit manic at times but don't they all, when offering a buffet service.

Only negative re the restaurant would be the waiting staff, not all but most would either clear your table before you had finished eating or not clear it at all between courses, check your drinks bill and get a receipt as we heard a number of queries re payment.

No problem getting sunbeds, pool area also very good.

Many reviews have rated the entertainment as poor, unfortunately we have to agree with this, whilst the animation team do what they can within what is probably a very low budget, a hotel of this standard should do better. Visiting cabaret, tribute band or just something different from the teams effort. They put on a Karaoke show twice which was ok, however every other bar in resort does Karaoke.

Blackpool, Malia, Las Vegas and the local Sunday market all in one is the best way we can describe the main resort. It caters for all and I would suggest that you would struggle to find anywhere similar, with fun fairs, casinos, playboy club, nightclubs galore and lots and lots of tacky market stall type shops. Despite this there are also many bars and restaurants that offer lovely locations on the beach, candles and sofas etc, with drinks at cheaper prices than the hotel.

Visited Nesebar, Svelt Vijas by bus, cheap and crowded, did not experience any problems as others have with pickpockets etc.

Our holiday to Sunny Beach was overall very good, blessed by the weather and an awareness of the pitfalls gained form various travel guides on the internet, yes we had a good time and provided you keep your wits about you i am sure you could too.

Since our return I have checked on the wages and hours worked, the average wage in hotels and bars appears to be about £80 per week for 60-70 hours, Bulgaria seems to have an issue re workers rights etc, this probably explains the bad experience others have had re crime and being conned.

If you do go i am sure you will have a good time.

Room Tip: Sea view brilliant, however no real sunshine on balcony.
