Firstly, if you are a family then I wouldn't even consider going to Sunny Beach for a holiday - this place is pure mayhem and a real 18-30s resort. Though there are family-orientated things to be enjoyed here (mini-golf, donkey rides, shows) the quality of the resort and the majority of its hotels is not of a standard that I would ever want my family to endure.
Now, onto Yavor Palace. Literally in the centre of the resort, just off the main street that leads to the beach. Sunny Beach is a giant resort so you'll really appreciate being in the centre - it is 100% worth spending the extra to stay here than similar quality hotels in poorer locations. The hotel is very basic, whilst the general cleanliness and maintenance is fine there is no hint of luxury or "wow" factor to be seen. The pool area is a little small and overcrowded, and the usual issues with finding sun loungers is a problem at Yavor, but you are a 5-minute walk from the beach so can wander there if there is no room.
The breakfast is best avoided. We abandoned it after day three having had to make special trips to the supermarket for extra loo roll - the food at Yavor will make you poop violently. Restaurants are so cheap in the resort though and there is so much choice you really ought to head to Sunny Beach on a self-catering basis (We were on B&B as it actually cost LESS than the self-catering option - says it all about the quality of the food tbh!).
Some of the staff spoke a little English but were friendly enough. So long as you behave they leave you to it, the only telling off we ever got was for being in the pool beyond the opening hours. There is a currency exchange onsite with a decent rate which is useful as a lot of the resorts exchanges are corrupt and offer poor rates. I remember the rooms having brilliant walk-in showers, air-con and fridges - 3 essentials for this resort!
I would consider coming back to the hotel at 2am to be an early night; young groups will be coming and going until after sunrise, so light sleepers may have a problem getting some shut-eye.
All in all this is ideal for young groups. We go back to Sunny Beach year after year and always try for Yavor if the price is right. It is safe, basic accommodation that leaves you in the centre of the resort and walking distance of dozens of bars, pubs, restaurants and shops. Yavor Palace has no sense of style or luxury, but then thats not why you're going to Sunny Beach. 4*
