we stayed at Wela for 2 weeks in June. I have to say that initially everything was fine i have been to Bulgaria before and understand that you need to take a star off the rating in places like Bulgaria, Turkey, Tunisia to make it more British standard so knew when booking it was more a 3* hotel. This is a point that many need explaining to them before booking.
The food was average, you get what you pay for really and if you don't like the hot selection there was always plenty of salads, cheeses, meat and breads to eat.
The entertainment staff work really hard alday to make it a nice atmosphere and can't really fault them.
However the male bar staff are slimey and stand perving over guests despite them clearly having partners and try chatting them up when they go for drinks offering to do special cocktails and then make rude comments between themselves once they are walking away.
The young girls serving become distracted by the male guests who stand talking crap to them about how many thousands of pounds they earn in England and how they travel the world (you know the type)
The mix of older guests, families and young groups is not a good one. We were forever woken up by shouting and screaming in the corridoors and i'm ashamed to say it was the brits that were doing it and the hotel didn't manage this well despite many complaints, they don't even have security it was lft to the porter and recpetionist both early 20's to plead with them to be quiet which only spurred them on more.
There is only one set of toilets for the whole hotel with 2 in the mens ans 2 in the ladies. These toilets always stopped working as they were being flushed so often as they had to service the pool area, restuarant, bar/recetion, They desperatley need to bulid toilets around the pool. as many people slipped and so fell on the wet floors from the pool water and one girl needed the ambulnce as she banged her head so badly. The sad news is this is going to get worse as they are now opening an annex building at the side so that means more people.
There is only a small amount of sun loungers and you are told not to reserve them as there is clearly not enough to go around however Brits again would leave their towels out overnight to save them which would not have been so bad if they used them after breakfast but sometimes it would be after 3pm they came down if at all somedays so my advise would be to do what we did, Breakfast finished at 10am if they weren't down for 11.30am we used to take the towels off and used them and if they said anything we would just say No Reserving!!
One final thing the picture of the pool table in the Night bar should not really be included in the brouchure as this is a paying bar only and in our Brochure this was not stated.
The pool table can only be used by the hour and it is 15 levs which i thought was expensive £7.50. Although the girl that works in the bar is nice i couldn't help but feel sorry for her listening to all the idiots nursing the cheapest bottle of beer all night telling her how rich and popular they were, something that i myself found hard to understand when they were on holiday by themselves and in a 3* hotel in Bulgaria. God i got sick of hearing the same stories from different people in the 2 weeks we were there so i don't know who she stands a full summer of it.
If they stopped the young groups and built some extra toilets and the management learnt to be polite to guests then maybe this hotel would be Ok

Don't loose or break anything as everything has an extortionate charge, count your towels everyday, the maids are there to do an inspection of the room not clean it, they will make a charge for anything they can, keys lost, missing towels, loose handles, flower arrangements glasses.

Room Tip: ask for a pool view or else you will be on a side road viewing the dustbins

For the money I thought this was excellent staff were friendly and worked very hard. Never been to Bulgaria before and this is a nice part of the world (bit like Spain nothing is finished) foods ok weather was great lots to do around for everyone !!!!! I read trip adviser before going and was not looking forward to this but was pleasantly surprised. Went with Thomas Cook flight times for arriving and leaving are awful unless you like 24 hrs + without sleep but that,s not the hotels fault would go back to sunny beech but a more expensive hotel nearer to beech. My Bulgarian is next to nothing but a big smile and thank you goes a long way !! Happy Travels

04-06-12 - 11-06-12 Me and my husband returned from the Wela hotel Tuesday morning and had a thoroughly lovely time. Totally can not believe what people on here are writing!!!!! We felt the staff were friendly and polite. Cleaners were constantly cleaning throughout the day and rooms cleaned every day. Food was great, choice of chicken/pork/beef/fish and veggie dishes every meal with potato, pasta and rice dishes, loads of salads and deserts. Breakfast was fab, proper fry ups as well as lots of alternatives !!!!! Entertainment was great compared to other all-inclusives we have stayed at. Perfect location, just back from the main hustle and bustle, close enough for a short walk to the beach/shops but far enough not to be noisy and busy. Totally recommend this hotel. Visiting the water parks and Khans Tent is a must.

Ignore all the negative comments I read them befor I booked and it made me not want to go, we had a brilliant holiday for the money u pay what do people really expect? Ok do the food isn't amazing but remember your in Bulgaria and that who they mainly cater for, they do eggs bacon toast beans, sausages fruit cakes for breakfast, dinner u can have chicken chips moussaka spaghetti pasta burgers, then at 3 pm pizza chips for snacks and then icecream yummy, we ate out every night for tea as it is ridiculously cheap, the staff couldn't do enough for u, the entertainment team are fun they will try to get u involved in water polo volly ball erc, the hotel is situated close to the beach and bars and restaurants we loved our holiday and will be returning :) xxx

After reading other reviews we were quite worried, but we actually had a good time .The rooms were clean, towels changed everyday and beds were made everyday too air con was rubbish.we thought the charge for the safe in your room was a little steep but when our lock broke on us they changed it straight away staff were very helpful. The food we found was good at breakfast and lunch time but dinner was often disappointing ok if you like chicken and pork.No towels by the pool so make sure you take your own. For a cheap holiday for a week it was ok although we do feel its more a 3 star than a 4star!The pool is a little on the small side and quite cold at first, there isnt a lot of entertainment as people have put before but they do try during the day with activities and the ice cream team are very friendly and helpful..
