“GREAT HOLIDAY!”
Reviewed August 21, 2012 via mobile

Fab hotel!! Ignore the bad reviews - not really sure what people expect when booking club18-30's but this hotel is amazing for a club18-30 hotel.

Ok so some staff are quite rude and blunt, but that's the way with all the Bulgarians!

You do need to get by the pool quite early to get a good spot, but that's not a huge issue seeing as the beach is only a 5min walk away.

The events you do with the reps are good. Think they may be a little overpriced but they are worth doing! You meet so many people and all stick together.

Overall I think this hotel is amazing for what you pay and for what you expect.

I have to say I can't believe some of the reviews on here are genuinely written by people who knowingly booked an 18-30 holiday!

We arrived on the 3rd August around 5am, were greeted with free shots and told we would have a meeting with our rep Dane the following morning at 10.30am. He came bang on time and it was really helpful - explained all the events and wasn't bothered when we said we would have a think about which we wanted to do. Ended up booking the beach party and school disco straight away, and booked the boat party later on in the week. Word of warning - this did work out much more expensive than booking all the events together, so if like us you make friends while you're there who have booked everything, you soon realise you're left on your own while they're all on the nights out! Would definately book all the events next time - it might seem like a big chunk of your spending money but the free bars, entry etc. definately make up for it.

Would reccommend putting your towels down on sunbeds early on as they go quite quickly. Great atmosphere around the pool during the day, especially the pool party. The reps were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. As far as we were aware no one had any problems with staff at the hotel either, they all seemed pleasant enough and as for the maids - none of our stuff seemed tampered with as other reviews mentioned and our towels were changed, beds made etc. every day. No problems when checking out either, they said the room was fine.

As for people saying you can't sleep... it's an 18-30s clubbing holiday, did you really expect to be able to get a good 8hours kip when you were booking it? The hotel is great during the day but even better at night when you get in from your nights out - pop out onto the balcony and you'll find a room party within minutes!

Had no trouble from mafia etc. over the week - just keep your whits about you and you'll be fine.

Overall a fantastic holiday and cannot wait to book another 18-30s... don't let the miserable buggers on here put you off!

Where do you start ?

We arrived at the hotel at 4:00am and after a long day we just wanted to sleep really but no the reps told us that we had a meeting in 10minutes with them. The girl was nice to begin with and then when she got to the packages she got pushy and didnt seem very happy when we told her that we were going to do our own thing and to be honest after that the reps don't even bother looking at you the whole holiday.

The maids were horrible and very rude our towels were changed twice the whole time we were there ( 2 weeks), had to ask for toilet roll and sheets never got changed once, even after asking ! we were also positive that the maids were looking through our things my bracelete went missing and when we arrived at teh hotel we had no glasses in our room so we went out and bought little plastic ones these also went missing, how pathetic.

when checking out the hotel the staff had told us that we had either stolen the glasses or smashed them (as i said above we had to buy our own cups) and charged us 100 lev and wouldnt let us leave until it was paid. We also got the rep to help us and his word were "i can't help you must have done something with them" isn't that what reps are there for.

only good thing about this hotel is that it is in an excellent locations.

A group of 6 girls aged between 23-26 years of age spent a week at the Mariner Hotel in July 2012 via Thomas Cook. We flu out on Friday 20th July from Glasgow and arrived at the hotel on Saturday morning around 4.30am. We were a little shocked when our rep Craig told us we could check in and he would give us 5mins and come up to our room for our “meeting” we got our keys (had 2 rooms booked) and headed up. After about 5mins the rep appeared and walked straight into our room, firstly I think it’s highly inappropriate for someone to just walk into your room (he done this on more than one occasion during our stay) it’s also inappropriate for the rep to want to do your meeting at 4.30am in the morning in your room when you’ve just arrived. The reason for this is so they can try and trap / force people into taken the 18-30’s package. DON’T DO IT!!!!!

He gave us the “chat” and told us we could have the full package for just under 500 LEVS, this would work out around £250 allowing us to take part in 5 different activities including a bar crawl, booze cruise, silent disco and a school disco night at Club Orange. As we are a little bit older than 18 and have been on many girls holidays over the past 5-6 years including club 18-30’s before we knew straight away that he was at it and trying to get way too much money out of us. One member of our group actually worked as a holiday rep for Thomas Cook the 3 previous years so we certainly weren’t silly little girls about to part with that kind of money. When we told Craig no we wanted to do our own thing & would get back to him if we wanted to do any of the activities his attitude changed completely, he became rather nasty asking why we had even bothered to come on holiday if we didn’t plan on having fun?!?! Got really uptight about it but we were adamant that we wanted to do our own thing. Craig was a creepy guy and very touchy feely with people beware of the creepiness that’s all I’m saying. All the deals he was trying to sell us can be bought on the main strip for 15 LEVS each (£7.50) or 3 events for 40 LEVS (£20) really???? Yes really it’s an absolutely joke, we meet many people in our hotel that had been caught out by the reps and was either angry or upset about it and of course regretted parting with such a large some of money.

The hotel itself was clean especially for 18-30’s however our towels did only get changed once and the bed sheets were not changed at all other than that it was relatively clean. It is extremely load at night with people sitting on balcony’s singing, shouting, screaming, fighting, chapping on all the doors etc. right up till about 7-8am in the morning. Not good if you plan on sleeping but to be fair it is club 18-30 so you do expect that. Pool area very small, best off heading to the beach, staff not very friendly at all, maids very ignorant, get annoyed if you ask for more toilet roll and completely refuse to give you clean towels. On our first day we think the maids went through our stuff, opened cases, opened bags etc. and even moved things about (in both rooms) however we cant prove it so never said anything to them but made dam sure we bought the safe and kept all our money, passports and mobiles in it.

Very cheap for drink and food in Sunny Beach, we could get starters, mains, sides, soft drinks and alcohol drinks for 6 people and the most we ever paid was 170 LEVS working out at less the £15 each and that was our most expensive meal. Great deals to be had on the drink front as long as you haggle with them, in 1 bar we managed to get 7 cocktails and 7 shots of sambuca for only 10 LEVS that’s less than £5 for the lot. A group of guys who came in the same bar as us at the same time got the same order and paid 50 LEVS (£25) The drinks are extremely strong especially the cocktails they don’t even watch when pouring it and the juice doesn’t even touch the bottom of the glass (bonus for those who enjoy a good booze up)

For us it certainly wasn’t our best holiday, although the weather was amazing, beaches were gorgeous and bars and nightclubs were great we wouldn’t advise going back and certainly not to this hotel. As a group of girls being aged 23-26 we found it very young. Don’t think anyone else in the hotel was over 18 or 19 so definitely great if you’re a bit younger. Just please be very careful with the reps as they are taken advantage of young people most likely on their first holiday and it’s just a shame that people fall for it.

As for the mafia, yes parts are run by the Russian Mafia and your rep will warn you of this when you arrive however we had no contact what so ever with them, no problems at all. They run the casinos and the strip clubs so as long as you stay away from them you will never come into contact with them.

I really dont know how this hotel is so highly rated. We arrived at about 6am and got to our room where we found 2 beds and a fold out sofabed/mattress on the floor. Really didnt spend £400 to sleep on a mattress. Also the floor was filthy, after walking around with bare feet they would be black within a few minutes. When we asked for the floor to be cleaned the maid was really rude and pretty sure she was swearing at us in their language. The curtains were all stained and the air con didnt work properly.

Where towels were only changed once a week, the maids would take all the towels and put them in the bathroom so you couldnt tell which one you had been using which was a pain.

Also dont stay at this hotel if you want to be able to sleep at night.

When we left the hotel, everyone's luggage was put in a room near reception due to a late flight, a lot of people had belongings stolen from their bags i.e. iPods, iPads, money (I know you would be stupid to leave these things unattended) but we were all sure it was staff/bulgarians who knew they could get away with it.

The pool is too small for a large hotel, you can only get a sunbed if you wake up early and only a few of the sunbeds get sun all day.

As everyone else has said, the Club 18-30 trips are a rip off, we didnt buy them but the rep did try selling them to us and that was the only time she spoke to us.

The hotel food is pretty awful. The location of the hotel is good and the resort in general was nice. I would probably go to Sunny Beach again but wouldnt stay here, but seeing as this is currently the highest rated hotel in the resort I dread to think what the others might be like.

7 of us set off for Sunny Beach having been to Faliraki and Malia the previous two summers. This resort and hotel had a lot to live up too.

It certainly did, daytime is where the Mariner is at it's liveliest. Cheap bar, loud music and a big bunch of like minded people all soaking up the sun. What people have said about the pool area not getting the sun during the day, absolute nonsense. Food was average at the hotel, so much to choose from and different cuisines just a stones throw away.

Rooms are clean and a great layout and the maids are efficient. The balcony's facing the pool are a right laugh. When checking out, make sure you stay in your room when they come to check it because they tried to do us out of money for 'missing' items which was ludicrous.

18-30's isn't really up too much. Thought the rep's were pretty poor and only wanted to rinse you out of money. We only booked onto the Big reunion weekend as the actual holiday events can be found far cheaper out on the strip. Highly advise going to the 'partycrew' events office on the strip for any bar crawls and boat parties as their much cheaper and are such a great bunch of reps!

Nightlife is what you make of it, plenty of places to go and we had a right laugh everywhere.

A lot has been said about the mafia on here, we did run into a few financial problems with them over the week but it was totally avoidable. Just keep your wits about you and try not do anything rash in areas that aren't busy. Lesson learned by us!

Overall though, what a holiday and one of the best young person's hotels in Sunny Beach.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony facing the pool is a boost.

After reading some reviews on here i was a bit undecided on whether it was gunna be a good wee but my god it sooooo was! 3 of us girls (18 years old) went out and waiting at reception was quick and we were greeted with free shots. We arrived at 4 and went straight out and i would definately recommend Viking as the place to go, we hardly went to any others because it was just awesome. Everyone there is nice and if your a girl and looking to go out to pull then its like 70% boys! The photos don't really do the hotel justice and i wasnt sure on the layout of the balconys but it was an awesome way to make friends as you pre drink on the balcony then shout out across to others! Yes it was noisy but thats the fun of it. Staff were great, rooms were clean and so was the hotel. If there was one bad thing it was the boat party. The free bar was just beer and Sangria and if like me and you dont like neither then its a sober 4 hours for you! We didnt book any of the other trips and quite glad as they would be gone and back on them before we had even left the hotel for a night out! would definately recomend this hotel as it was a great location and great value for money, not at all tacky!

Room Tip: We were in 216 and we had a massive room and balcony even though it was just 3 of us compared to som...
