“Not suitable for British tourists”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2009

The rooms were clean & quite a good standard. The food was based on east european cultures & part cooked/cold when served. There was no organisation & fighting in queues for food. Tables were piles high with dirty dishes & staff had to be asked several times to clear them. The staff were unhelpful, shugging their shoulder when asked a question and smoked / cleaned areas then didn't wash their hands before service food/drinks. The pool was not cleaned, apart from the day before we left when a rubber scrapper was used to descale the sides while we were in the water, had loose tiles both in & around it and the bridge was broken, this was eventually closed off near the end of our stay. This is the worst holiday I have encountred, the term 'All Inclusive' should be removed as the staff tried to stop service prior to the published times.

Good value for the money; a place where you can relax and recharge your batteries. Nice rooms, ok food, good cakes, nice souroundings (trees, pool area, quiet).

Not a place for fancy guests, night life or awesome experiences. You might find queques at the restaurant or snack place.

We stayed at this hotel for one week with our 3 year old daughter. The hotel itself was fine, rooms clean and tidy etc. Staff were ok, but presumed we were German as the hotel was full of them! We found that it was directed towards the Germans especially the food. If you could get any food after being shoved out of the way or pushed infront of and if the food still happened to be warm then you were lucky! We were all inclusive and the food was not to the standard I had expected it to be (after staying in all inc hotels prior to this). We never ate there in the evening due to the fact we actually couldnt get a table as it was just full up! Albena is a nice resort with plenty to do for kids, meals were cheap, but we found Balchik a lovely place (just down the road - taxi ride away). It had lovely scenery and good food which was cheap. Overall we had a lovely week, the hotel was fine, it was the food which let it down unfortunately.

Its quite a way out from the centre but you can get the mini train which runs all day or the free shuttle bus which goes straight to the beach.I travelled with my 14 year daughter and during our stay we had a facial and manicure at the hotel and both were excellent value for money .The food was good a bit repeative same as every where really.the snack bar on the pool that belongs to the hotel is good and the pizza is home made. ps if u can afford it book a pool view its worth it as the pool is wonderful . All i can say now is enjoy.

Honestly, if you have booked a holiday here - cancel it! I have just returned from this hotel after a week's stay with my young grandson. Firstly, it is a 5 to 6 hour transfer from the airport. We arrived at 11:20pm and got to our hotel at 05:30am. On the return it took just under 5 hours because we did not go all the way through Sunny Beach picking people up. Before leaving, I phoned Balkan after reading other reviews, to confirm that we were staying at the Magnolia Hotel and not the Magnolia Garden. I was assured that Balkan did not use this hotel. Of course on arrival we were booked in to the Magnolia Garden and despite my protests I was told that nothing could be done until the rep arrived. I had to carry all the bags to this other hotel because of staff shortages, grandson now in tears. Rep never appeared, no welcome pack - nothing and I was never able to find her. British people are not catered for in the restaurant. I and a Bulgarian couple complained to the Manager about the service, state of the rooms (disgusting!) and the food. He apologised and said that they catered for the Romanians and Russians who had very low expectations, if we didn't like it we could leave. I am not making this up, he actually said it. He also said he had a crisis because he didn't have enough staff. I witnessed several physical fights over food, saw food being stolen in bags from the restaurant and screaming arguments were common. Eventually we ate out as there was nothing edible, and some people had become sick because of undercooked chicken. The only good thing is the pool area which is kept in a good condition and the children's pool is a good size, although you do need to be quick in the morning with your towels on sunbeds. I was very dissapointed with this hotel, having been to Albena before and stayed near the beach. Although basic, the food had been good and we were treated well. Frankly, this has put me off going back.

Returned back after two weeks away. Had a really good holiday. The hotel rooms are quite basic but the pool area is excellent, although we did have to get up early to reserve our loungers and umbrellas. poolside bar/snackbar good with plenty of choice. Staff were very friendly. Restaurant was nice but did get a bit fed up at the end of the fortnight with pork, chicken and beef. They did make fresh pancakes each morning, if you were willing to queue for them. A nice relaxing holiday and we had four boys aged 9 - 14 who enjoyed themselves, played football and dodgeball with animation team and there was the usual aerobics and waterpolo to keep you entertained. Only downside was the frustration with the Russians/Bulgarians who do not believe in queueing and will push to the front of the queue when people are waiting for food/drink. If you get chance do the jeep safari day out. It was excellent, but do not wear anything new, white or clean as you will get wet and dirty!! Only downside was no air con in the bedrooms but on saying that the rooms were shaded by trees so they didn't get really hot. We had a lovely holiday and I would go back again, although my partner said he wouldn't because of the arrogance and ignorance of the queue jumpers! The hotel is at the top of the resort and if you wish to go down to the main strip you can either walk down the 179 steps or catch the mini train. We tended to walk down and catch the train back up, which cost 8 lev (£3) for the six of us. Overall the holiday was enjoyed by all our party.

  • Liked — great pool area with music all day
  • Disliked — people pushing in for food and drink

Got back from Magnolia on the 22nd had really good weather only rainied a few times in the 2 weeks and it was nice because it had been so hot.
We were suppose to be staying in Magnolia Gardens but it was closed when we got there so we stayed in the main hotel Magnolia. Rooms were really nice and cleaned everyday.
The hotel pool is really big and great for kids as it has 2 water slides. There were plenty of sun beds and you could get a one at any time of day.
Food in the restaurant was good and a lot of choice, there was always something that we would eat. Breakfast was especially good with frech pancakes each morning.
Entertainment was ok they have to cater for many nationalities who use the hotel. We had fun playing bingo and one night had there was bulgarian dancers that were excellent.
Albena is a good resort with lots to do, we enjoyed mini golf, walking around the shops and riding the bull. The beach is lovely and clean and it has bars built on it that are really nice.
We had good meals in Peter's steak house and the Old House on the beach.
