“Absolutely stunning. A little gem. Will certainly be back…”
We have recently returned from our family holiday to Albena, Bulgaria. My partner and I took our 3-year-old daughter away for 10 days to stay at the fabulous Villa Vivienta. We read the good reviews about this villa on Trip Advisor prior to booking and are pleased to say that our holiday thoroughly lived up to expectations.
The Villa was massive, we had so much space for just the three of us! The villa was very clean and extremely well equipped. It was home from home as literally everything we could possibly need was catered for, the owners really have thought of everything! Upon arrival we had an unexpected welcome pack left for us by the owners which included bread, milk and a bottle of wine which we felt was a lovely touch.
The pool and Jacuzzi were an added bonus and a huge hit with our daughter and a welcome relief from the heat! Our daughter also enjoyed playing on the swings in the garden in the evening and ‘attempting’ to play table tennis and table top football in the games room!
What made this villa extra special for us; was the impressive views of the bay. We enjoyed magnificent stunning sea views from every room in the house and enjoyed many evenings sitting on the veranda by the pool looking out at the stars, it was just beautiful.
In terms of things to do as a family, there was so much that we could have done with staying for longer. The wonderful family friendly golden sand beach of Albena was about a 20 min downhill walk with our little girl, but without a toddler I’m sure this would be quicker! We found it easier to drive down to the beach as parking is free and it meant we could load up the car with all of our beach stuff! There’s loads to do with the kids in Albena with parks, children’s rides, shops and restaurants. (Top tip - throughout our stay, it was particularly hot for that time of year, it made us laugh how the locals park their car's literally in the bushes and tucked between the trees in a bid to keep their cars cool throughout the day; so rather than search for an appropriate car parking space, we would search for an available bush)!... I attached a few photos to show what I mean!...
We also visited Golden Sands beach which was also boasted stunning golden sands but I would say the resort is suited more for the youngsters with lots of big hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and a huge array of stalls at the far end which is well worth having a mooch around.
The City of Varna is well worth a visit and if you have little ones there are two fabulous water parks not too far from the villa. We spent a day at the Aquamania Aqua Park in Albena and cannot recommend it enough! It’s best to get there fairly early as it does get busy but there are water slides suitable for all ages there and a fantastic Lazy River with waves! The park was so clean and well thought out, one of the best we've been to. If we’d been staying longer we would have definitely gone back there!
We went to Balchik several times, it’s a lovely quaint town just 5 min drive away where you can enjoy a relaxed laid back atmosphere. We enjoyed some lovely seafood lunches overlooking the marina and revisited one evening enjoying a fantastic (albeit a little pricier) meal in one of the restaurants built on stilts over the sea. I wish I could remember the name, it was double fronted, with huge wrought iron candle chandeliers opposite a hotel with rattan furniture if that helps!...
The owners recommended several restaurants including the Mexican in Albena, Fiesta Bulgaria (close to the villa), Korona, Sylvias and Veronis in and around Balchik.
We had fantastic nights at each of these, but the food in a restaurant in Kranevo was amazing the best freshly barbecued leg of lamb dish I've ever tasted, it was so tender. The Mexican restaurant in Albena strip was fantastic, the manager was extremely helpful, the food delicious and they had a mariachi band which serenaded our tables during our meal!
Veroni’s BBQ restaurant was based in a pretty outside garden surrounding a small dance floor area where we were entertained with a professional singer and traditional dancing. This was excellent value for money, we had another very enjoyable evening here.
We wouldn't hesitate in recommending Villa Vivienta to anybody considering a stay in Albena, Bulgaria. We had a fantastic time and didn't want to come home! We cannot wait to book up again in the very near future.
