Fascinating facility where one can see the eggs (buried in sand, awaiting hatching); the new hatchlings in one pool (till their eyes open and belly-buttons heal at 3 days, you can't pick them up) and then the 3-day olds awaiting release into the ocean.
There's also a number of disabled turtles which are kept as they wouldn't survive. Some have twisted shells, one is blind.
Got to hold turtles and an egg.
Also they have a very tempting souvenir shop - we are now the proud owners of a turtle front door mat!

The hatchery was very educational. You can see what good work they are doing to help with conservation and education among the fishing population. We saw baby turtles being released into the sea.

This place is between Bentota and Galle. It's a turtle conservation project. The entry is 500 SLR and a guide will take you through all the stages of turtle growth from eggs to full fledged turtles and they say after a certain age they are released in the open sea. You can touch turtles, hold them and click pics. It was an informative tour, didn't know so much about turtles before. You can even see albino turtles. The whole tour was not more than 20-25 mins unless you spend time taking pics. I think it's worth a visit. I like how they are concerned about turtles and running conservation projects.

Well worth dropping into. They are doing great things here, and it was well run and great to get to hold hundreds of turtles.

We visited day time on the road so didn`t get to see the Turtles released back in the Ocean. It was for sure very informative, but you just never know if they really help the turtles or just make it a business. The entrance price keeps going up..
