We have recently returned from a five day stay at Serene Pavilions. In every respect it was a superb holiday tht will stay in our memories for a long time to come.

The welcome on arrival was totally professional but very relaxed. We were offered a refreshing drink and cold towel; there was no pressure to complete forms and hand over passports straight away; and our Pavilion was ready for us even though we had arrived a little early.

The facilities in our Ocean View Pavilion were truly world class. Plenty of space, very comfortable facilities, very large bedroom with a stunning ocean view from the bedroom and balcony.

Our butler Jerome saw to our every need in a friendly and courteous way. He always seemed to know what we might need next (for example, within moments of arriving at the pool he would be there with drinks of cold water). He was totally helpful at all times without eve being intrusive.

The meals were excellent. Highlights were the breakfast each morning on our own terrace; light lunches by our own pool; and evening meals in the restaurant looking out onto the Ocean. The Sri Lankan curries were truly superb. One small example of the great service is that when my wife mentioned that she enjoyed a particular dessert (which was not on the menu) Jerome arranged for the chef to have this available each evening.

The hotel pool (which we often had to ourselves) is surrounded by stunning gardens. The poolside staff were always friendly and cheerful. We wre encouraged to lie on the 'underwater sunbeds' and enjoy the jacuzzi facilities built into them.

The jewelry shop is excellent with a wide range of hand made jewelry. The owner is extremely helpful and is happy to make items to your own design if you wish.

Both my wife and I enjoyed excellent massages in the hotel's spa facility.

The hotel providd a driver, Subash, for a trip to Galle. He couldn't have been more helpful and speaks excellent English. He is friendly, totally professional and courteous. On the way he took us to a Tsunami photographic museum which was extremely moving. On arrival in Galle he provided a very interesting tour of his home city.

We feel that Serene Pavilions is a uperb hotel with first class facilities and excellent staff. We would thoroughly recommend it and will definitely visit it again.

The achievement of simplicity, warmth of hospitality, detailed luxury and contagious smiles is almost rare in many a context – yet it is conspicuously etched as a standard and culture at the Serene Pavilions.

Just last week I visited this amazing property – which I definitely would call a utopia in the middle of nowhere. The tranquility and rendered peace is one of those long sought experiences which gracefully flows from the time you check in.

‘Karishma (meaning miracle)’– our two bedroom garden pavilion was without a doubt a miracle indeed- a four poster bed, Jacuzzi, plunge pool and our own butler, with ample space for us to laze about and spend time exclusively.

Serene Pavilions has a warm luxurious touch to it which offers a magical sensation; you will find yourself connected to the entire ambiance – each point offers an indulging element that makes it complementary and least ambiguous, and you truly feel a part of the texture, nature and freely surrender to relaxation.

Serene Pavilions has given moments of realization, relaxation and true indulgence. A hotel definitely worth experiencing

The hotel, set in seven acres on the beach, is reminiscent of the better Maldives boutique hotels, without the benefits of a reef for snorkelling, but with the benefits of being on a large populous island.

The pavilions are beautifully built with much attention to detail and are very large. The ocean avilions all have sea views and back onto the lawns leasing to the beach.

This is a quiet place, where guests hardly see each other and ignore each other when they do. There is. Not much to do, but relax, enjoy the peace and excellent service. A great way to recharge batteries after a tour of the island. I would recommend staying about a week to achieve maximum benefit without getting bored.

For those with a bit of energy, we strongly recommend walking fifty metres down the beach to a beach restaurant called Jani's Rest. Don't worry about the rustic nature, the food is the best we ate in Sri Lanka - fresh fish, sea food cooked either with spices baked in a wok or grilled. The owner, Jani, a former tuktuk driver is a friendly guy and watching the sun set, listening to great music with drink is what life is about!

Finally, we wanted to mention a great find in Mr. Prasana - he owns the jewellery shop located opposite reception. Normally this kind of shop is over-priced and not good quality, but his shop is the exception. His designs are modern, his prices very low even for Sri Lanka and his craftsmanship and knowledge excellent. Needless to say my wife has come away the richer and I the poorer!

Room Tip: Choose an Ocean Pavilion that does not border the adjacent properties for additional serenity.

We wanted a warm week somewhere different for February half-term, after several stays in Thailand and the Maldives. We're a family of four with two teenagers and (after booking quickly one one cold Sunday afternoon) wondered if this really was for us. After being there - yes, absolutely!

Why? Because:

-Great space in the villas, two good bedrooms and bathrooms and lovely lounge areas, in and out
- Kettle, teapot, great tea, fresh milk and big mugs was a good start everyday (never before on a hot holiday....)
-No stress about eating space, sunbathing space, other people in your face
-Went native on the food (ask the butler) and didn't just stick to the menu. Showed local fish, shellfish when it came in - and if it wasnt caught not on the menu
-Left Serene Pavilions to visit Galle Fort and Lunuganga (Geoffrey Bawa's amazing garden) - very cool (wished we'd taken tuk-tuk to Bawa's Bluewater hotel in Wadduwa for cocktails...)
-Our superb Butler, Sena, anticipated our every need, without stalking us, and quickly worked out the rhythm of our day. All service very adult and authentic.
-Other highlights were our private Beach BBQ and our 17 year old daughter's unsolicited birthday breakfast organised by Sena and hosted by the Butlers (singing happy Birthday, flower petals, cake, presents, handmade cards .....)
-The gym was very well equipped, (if a little warm ....)
-It was good to be connected to the outside world - not an isolated resort, we could see cows and fishermen from our deck chairs, hear trains, pick up tuk-tuks outside
-Mum and daughter had rings made by the jeweller in the hotel to our design - good value and workmanship - ready in a couple of days
-Food and wine good and reasonable prices - and anything you wanted (well worth asking)
-Gardens awesome

Would definitely go back - real interest in customers and looking after you as individuals - unique so far in our experience

Serene Pavilions truly lives up to its name. An oasis of calm and tranquility. After an interesting but tiring 11 night tour of Sri Lanka this proved to be the perfect spot to chill and unwind.
The accommodation, pool area and gardens are all immaculately kept by a courteous and friendly staff. Our personal butler Nalaka was absolutely superb. Always charming and cheerful but never obtrusive. How did he know without us asking that we were ready for a beer ? What a treat too,to have your jacuzzi bath run and filled with fresh floating flowers and different bath oils each night.
Rohan looked after the Pavilion very well too and thoughtfully even bought my husband something to ease his back after he had been having a go at baseball with some of the local boys on the beach. If it good food and a private ,relaxing time in congenial, beautiful surroundings you will not be disappointed.
Thank you everyone for making our holiday so memorable.
