Reef Villa is a little relaxing paradise, we stayed eight wonderful days in this resort, directly at the beach of the indian ocean (you can always hear the breaking of the waves) we also enjoyed the food in this resort very much, the head chef Piyasiri Silva delighted us day by day with another culinary surprise. the restaurant is very intimate (only a few tables) and you can hear and see the ocean. Maybe it's no michelin-star-cuisine but it's incredibly fresh, and well done and a cuisine where the quality of the product is the central point, with oriental spices and fish served at his best, it was extra-ordinary and we loved it very much (and we went to a lot of michelin-star-restaurants in germany and were disappointed !). The rooms in colonial decor are really comfortable and luxury, the service is omnipresent but also very discrete and Brendan the owner is really a lovely host !!! This is my favourite hotel in Sri Lanka - enjoy this romantic spot to relax - it's a wonderful experience !!!

We travelled around Sri Lanka for a second time in two years this March and actually checked out of a hotel earlier than planned to return to Reef Villa. We knew we would instantly relax and be taken care of. From the minute the gates of this beautiful hotel opened to the minute we left we again received service like no other. Malith and his team did everything to make our stay memorable and special (they even sourced some Ayurvedic bowls for us from Colombo and had them brought to us at the hotel)...nothing was too much trouble. Our children felt at home straight away - they loved seeing the fish, playing cricket with Nihal, seeing the elephant and swimming in the sea. The treatments we received in the new outdoor spa were fabulous and the food consistently good.

Reef Villa is an unmitigated joy, the rooms, the food, the service, the location, all second to none. I really can't fault it. And Brendan the owner will fall over backwards to help with any concerns, or if you need advice for trips or to sort onward travel. The only thing I am upset about is that he wouldnt let me beat him at table tennis! Apart from that this is my favourite hotel in Sri Lanka - I know many of them and I am extremely picky!!!! Enjoy.

Room Tip: Ocean Suites or Balcony room

We booked reef villas for 5 nights as a quiet idyllic spot to relax after a tour of Sri Lanka. The quiet and small complex, with beautiful colonial decor and stunning grounds, did not disappoint and what makes it really stand out is the individual attention to detail for every guest, under the skilful hand of the manager Malith. It was no issue being vegetarian the only thing worth noting was our holiday coincided with English and Middle East holiday season and there were some families staying despite the villas all being set up for couples but this in no way detracted from the experience.

Room Tip: There really isn't a bad room!

My wife and I were at the Reef in the spring of 2011 for three nights and for two of those, we had the entire place to ourselves. It was heavenly.

We literally had the run of the place during all but our first night. So lounging by the pool, strolling down the beach, having late night dinners and sleeping incredibly late every morning were just what we needed.

One day, we wanted to go down to Galle, so the owners loaned us their car and one of the staff for the day. A great trip and of course, my wife seemed to find the right place to buy moonstones. Oh well ! And while your are in Galle, be sure to stop at the Ramparts Villa for lunch.

Room Tip: We had our choice as we were the only guests there. We stayed in an amazing second floor suite with...

We were at the Reef Villa in March 2014 for 7 lovely days. We are a family with 3 children, 8 and 6 yr old boys and a 2 1/2 yr old girl. I believe that just because we have kids doesn’t mean that we have to compromise and go to noisy brash hotels. This hotel is just beautiful! Anyone that values beautiful houses, gardens and antiques will love it. This hotel was also perfect for us, the food was excellent the boys could roam around and explore the gardens, feed the fish, find the 2 friendly dogs. They loved the board games, the sea waves and pool. We were a bit nervous being a family with 3 kids going to a quiet boutique hotel but it worked very well and we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and the owners. My 6 yrs old boy likes head massages now, he loved going to SPA. The eldest played football with the pool guards. They all loved the pool, the elephant on the beach, the dogs, the ducks and the ice cream. And we loved the beauty of the place, the design, the service and off course the food!!! So we will be back!!!

We spent 6 nights at the Reef having travelled up-country for a week. It was an oasis of calm and luxury. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the staff are most attentive. I would thoroughly recommend this haven, in fact we certainly plan to return.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.
