“Good value for money”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

We stayed at this hotel for 9 nights just before Christmas with our 3 children (age 14,13,10). The newly refurbished rooms are smart and the beds very comfy. The guys that cleaned our rooms were wonderful. Plenty of sunloungers and umbrellas with no need to be up early to reserve. The staff were very genuine and nothing was too much trouble. The food was a highlight. I was not expecting such quality for a hotel of this star rating. I have stayed in 5* hotels that cannot match the quality, the best curries we have ever tasted and also good western food choices for those that don't like spice. Top quality coffee was available at breakfast along with freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. A special mention must go to Zoysa the Executive Chef who went out of his way to cook special meals for my very fussy 10yr old. We also had a tour of the kitchens and I found them to be spotless. As a previous reviewer mentioned the seafood market evenings are well worth the money (extra charge on all inclusive) Don't be put off that the fish is charged per kilo .A whole lobster was still working out at below £10, delicious and well worth the extra cost for something a bit special. We also booked a private beach barbecue one evening with our friends. Again great value and very special.
We booked trips with Harald Tours (you will see them on the beach) Great trips, good price and very good service. The hotel staff were great and all seem genuinely happy to work there. We found check in at reception slow but that is the only negative. Highly recommend this hotel for the money

After we travelled around Sri Lanka on our honeymoon for 5 days we finished our touring at the Club Dolphin Hotel for 6 nights. From arrival to departure the staff have been excellent, very friendly and always there to help you with a smile on their face. The food is quiet good and plenty to choose from at the buffet. All inclusive is the way to go but the á la carte restaurant is worth trying for a romantic evening. The hotel has thought of everything you need. The beach is on the edge of the hotel and great for a nice walk. I would also recommend getting a full body massage and wrap treatments, this made us really relax and chill out before heading home.

I have read the previous review and cannot add anything to it with the exception please pay the extra and go to the seafood restaurant and the Winds Restaurant. The fish is fresh and cooked on a barbie for you and a very low price. The Winds is full restaurant service with a meal for two with wine costing approx. £30.00. We only went once before but on the last night the Manager showed us to our usual table as we were 'regular customers'. We were all inclusive but wine was not included. We went (two ladies) on a three night and four day sight seeing tour - could not have been better. Our guide took great care of us and was interested in our well being. Please be aware though that all the 'sights' meant climbing steps and if you have any mobility problems it can be very tiring. I have spent the Christmas period all over the world and must say the Christmas Eve Dinner was magnificent but the New Year's eve Dinner was the best I have ever been to. Well done Club Dolphin!!! Sri Lanka is to be recommended.

Room Tip: Beware of the rooms above the disco - some people had to be moved

We arrived at this hotel on 30th December after spending a few nights in Dubai. 30mins transfer from Colombo airport. Check in was very informal and relaxed. We sat in the Aqua Lounge having a welcome drink while completing the check in paperwork. Our luggage was taken very quickly to our rooms. We were staying in the villas which I would recommend - handy location and all detached so privacy and quiet almost guaranteed. We were on an all inclusive basis and drinks at the bar which were available included a wide range of cocktails, local "Lion beer" and local rum, vodka, gin, brandy and local spirit Arrack. Coming from Scotland - no whisky was unfortunate but it was not too expensive to buy. We celebrated New Year here and the hotel went to huge effort to make it an enjoyable experience with an around the world theme at their grand gala dinner (which came at an extra cost). Tables were all set up outside decorations set up, fireworks, a variety of cooking stations and entertainment throughout the evening, including a visit from a very friendly elephant!. The only downside I would say is that the all-inclusive finished at midnight which put a bit of a damper on the evening as most guests started to filter away. Perhaps the hotel should consider extending this next year for and the party might have continued better.
Throughout the stay we found the food to be excellent. We did report to the executive chef that some of the dishes could have been a bit hotter (temperature) and immediately this was corrected with more burners produced. Food in the main buffet restaurant was very much local cuisine - curries and spicy food which might not be to everyone' s taste but I personally found each dinner an adventure. There were other restaurants where you could get burgers etc and the quality here was also very good but sometimes a bit slow in preparation.
We did get to know the animation team very well and they tried very hard to put on a programme for everyone . At New Year the hotel was very full and there were not enough sunbeds, but very quickly the hotel ensured that no-one reserved a sunbed and then left it unused, and also they went to Colombo and bought more- impressive. Throughout the stay the staff were all very friendly and service in the bars was excellent. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean, and sprayed daily to keep the mossies away. We did have a couple of tummy bugs during the stay and the staff were excellent in assisting by getting the local doctor to check ius out.
An excellent pool complex compensated slightly for the beach which had quite rough seas for most of the stay, but if you were confident it was fun bouncing in the breakers. There was also a quiet pool complex but we did not need to use this pool.
If you are considering sightseeing tours I would strongly recommend Tamil from ASDA tours who you will find on the beach. He will tailor trips to suit your needs and on one day trip we managed to take in a pineapple garden, The Millenium Elephant foundation, the elephant orphanage (recommended) The Temple at Kandy, a spice garden trip which included a massage with some spice oils and a visit to a tea plantation / factory. We had 8 in our party and he took us in an air-conditioned minibus and charged £40 each which was much cheaper than our rep and had more attractions built in.
All in all we had an excellent break and my wife and I would definitely consider returning.

Room Tip: I recommend the detached villas. Away from all entertainment and close to the beach.

This hotel was our base for the last two nights of our trip in Sri Lanka. This hotel is a lovely hotel for a base, for a nice relaxing break at the end of a tour and with only a few rooms it makes a peaceful place to stay. This hotel faces the beach and had a very big pool and children’s pool for families which they offer pool activities and entertainment throughout the day. The hotel offers spa facilities which you can get a massage down by the beach to completely relax which is down by the adult’s only pool where no children are allowed so couples can have a quiet holiday.

The transfer through the airport was very organised and quick and a short journey to the hotel. We booked 2 sea front villas which were very spacious and cleaned every day.
There were plenty of sun loungers around the pools. We dined in the restaurant for every meal and there was a good choice of currys as well as pasta and salad.
It was a bit strange exchanging the pool towels as it had to be done by the room staff not around the pool.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the chefs were great.
We booked all our trips with Tony on the beach, we had our own guide and driver for each tour, the tuk tuk train boat was fun, and we got to see over 100 dolphins on another trip.

Room Tip: The rooms on the beach are well worth the extra cost

We stayed on the beach front rooms with fantastic views the staff couldn't do enough to make your stay any more relaxing. The hotel is very clean and the food is a good standard. There was no rush to get sun beds around the pool as the staff would always find you space to chill out.
We booked our trips out from tony tours on the beach front and he really looks after you even supplying all cold drinks including beer through out the day.
The elephant trip is good but it's a long day with the return journey takes about 3 hours.
If you ask him he will give you a local tour starting with a tuk tuk then train to the local town a tour around the town with no pressure to buy anything as your guide supplies every thing tasting all the local fruits, then a boat ride back to your hotel. 4 hours well spent.
We also done a trip to see dolphins travelling north of the hotel it's starts early 05.30 and takes 2.5 hours to get to the location but it's was amazing. We went on the boat for 2 hours and surrounding by over 300 dolphins, then straight back to the hotel around midday.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 52 and our teenage children were in room 96 both were great opening the door direc...
