Ranveli Beach Resort
Reviewed February 12, 2012

The room is comfortable. They clean it really tidy everyday. Mr. Bu as the owner, is the nicest person I've ever met in Sri Lanka. The quality of coffee is really great. If you stay until midnight at the lobby, there will be someone guard you until you go to your room and sleep.

The location is really nice. It's only a walk away to the beach. Before breakfast is my best recommendation to go to the beach because there are many people and the beach is really clean and beautiful.

I can't wait to go to this place again. I love Sri Lanka, especially with Ranvelli! It's a worthy place, I tell you :)

We enjoyed our stay here. Rooms were very clean (which is rare in this price range) and had a nice view into the palm trees. The beach is a minute away, with nice beach front restaurants andbars. Also they have a private beach area, which unfortunately looked a bit neglected.

There's one major caveat with this one (and I suspect this concerns many of the beach hotels in Mt.. Lavinia): The rail tracks go right by the Hotel, and you have to cross them to get to the beach. Noisy and potentially dangerous with kids (although they do go slow and honk a lot). A train goes by every half hour, night time was largely quiet.

We didn't mind the trains. It's still a nice place at a good value. Free wifi would be nice though.

I stayed with my sister (I can consider her as my friend too))) for 10 days in a non-A/C room. Ranveli is a small hotel by the beach, excellent value for money. The room has been kept clean (everyday cleaning) and staff was very friendly - we felt very homely. During our stay we met many interesting people from different countries - India, Russia, Europe and Maldives, most of them stay in Ranveli every time they come to Sri Lanka. We also enjoyed the morning sea bath and relaxing hours in the hotel's private beach - small and cozy.
Re location: the train station, bus station and supermarkets are in a walking distance, what is very convinient as well.
I'm going back to Ranveli in March as I love beautiful Sri Lanka ))

It was great going back to Colombo and spending time at Ranvelli for the third time! The Beach is close by and very convenient. Bhuvanikha and his staff are also great! I thank him and his staff for the great hospitality during my recent visit. I hope to come back again in the future as well as recommend the same to anyone visiting Colombo.

Room Tip: Non AC rooms are fine if you are there in the winter months (Dec and Jan).

Stayed in their ground floor triple for one night.
The room has nothing more than 3 beds, a fan and a closet. There is no lockable storage... the beds have thin mattresses and feathered pillows, they aren't the most comfortable but aren't unbearable. I don't think this triple was worth the 42 USD a night that I spent... most dorms are better value.

The staff was quite friendly and helpful tho. Also, the location is good.. right next to the beach.

Room Tip: I think they have newer rooms, so try asking for one.

My friend and I were placed here as part of our volunteer holiday therefore we had no choice as to where we stayed. If this applies to you organise another hotel! it is not worth it. We arrived early in the morning around 3AM to find that our room was not ready for us. There was no bed linen and when the linen was brought to us it was just chucked at us to put on ourselves. The bathroom had no toilet paper and was filled with ants and a cockroach. The room is NOTHING like the photos provided to you on their website. The volunteers took up a few rooms and none of us had a room the resembled what is in the photos! No mosquito nets nor pink linen. The bed was hard and the slates underneath were snapped in half leaving a hole in the middle of the bed. Beware that there is a rail track that runs directly along the hotel. It starts at 5:30 AM and doesn't stop all day. It sounds like the train is about to come into your room. However one positive is that the owner of the 'resort' is very friendly which did make it a little nicer.

I booked through agoda and paid next to nothing for this hotel.

It is pretty much on the beach with its own little private beach. The staff are amazing, they cannot do enough for you. I had to go to hospital twice and the owner took me there both times! The place is very pretty with a lovely garden at the front. The food was lovely and really cheap!

this place is perfect if you want to be by the beach and not far from the hustle and bustle of colombo. you'll be very very hard pushed to find anything better for this price!
