“Unspoilt but not much to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

Very unspoilt island with a small fishing village and a smaller village near by. Fun to visit if you have an extra day. Other than that, the island is basically empty and covered in low forest. Great beaches.

“paradise on earth”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2011

Vamizi island is hard to get to, but it is worth the journey. It is a stunning island, away from it all place. No mosquitos whilst we were there and naturally clean. Miles and miles of untouched soft silver sand beach with not a soul to be seen, apart from the few visitors at the resort and of course the staff. We saw dolphin whilst snorkelling, a turtle nesting on the beach, a few very timid monkeys and bright yellow tiny birds whose nests live in the rattan joists of the bar area.
The staff are extremely courteous and try their best to meet all requests. The bedrooms are kept spotless and are stunning.
The food is not the best, and the seafood a disappointment compared to Kiwayu near Lamu in Kenya where we went last year.
We took time away from resort to visit local island which was extremely worthwhile. We took with us unwanted toys, t-shirts, sweat shirts and played with the local children. Highly recommended.

“Barefoot Paradise at Vamizi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2007

Our 7 day stay at this paradise island cannot be put into words how draw dropping this place really is. The expense was worth it for our honeymoon. We booked it via Scott Dunn website and it was perfect.

Picture this, Dhows with billowing white sails moving silently against the blue space of the Indian Ocean. From the flight you instantly fall in love with the island and get swept away with the whole Robinson Crusoe feeling. In the early mornings, cicadas fill the air with their song. We spotted Samango monkeys next to our room and turtle tracks racing across the pure white sand leading to a sparkling sea with , amazing magnificent reefs.

The lodges are luxury at its most luxurious. The lodge's villas are all tucked discreetly into the trees and back from the beach so as not to disturb nesting turtles. Inside, the villas are enormous and
king-size beds are draped with muslin mosquito nets (Though the island is malaria free)
Instead of windows, wooden latticed shutters give shimmering views of the turquoise sea.

Our room had a day bed built into the corner of the villa with curtains that turned it into a cozy nest. African sculptures and ornate ironwork lanterns on the veranda made us feel like we were a genteel character in a Karen Blixen story.

Just an amazing place which is hard to describe in words.
