Room was clean, the staff was friendly, motel is basically booked all the time due to oil activity. My one BIG holdup was we reserved a room with a queen bed two months in advance and was told no problem. Upon arrival a double was it. Asked the next day and told no change was avalible, so we spent 5 days in double bed. If this was only room when we booked, it would have been my call.

Room Tip: Get written conformation of reservation.

... but everything was excellent (it just didn't 'feel' like a 5 motel)

Traveling to this part of the country I did not dare not have reservations and this place was the closest to the border I could find online (But as I passed through Portal, it looked like there were rooms there, didn’t get a name)

Nice clean motel, just what I would expect in a small mid-west / plains town. Did have one issue that the door would not lock. In a lesser motel this has really spooked me, but not here. I just switched rooms, luckily they still had one left for me but it was the last one.

There is room for a few big rigs. Bar next door has food until late which isn’t something you always find in rural areas.

To compare it to a chain, I’d place this motel above your average Days Inn/Super 8, maybe in the Sleep Inn for everything except a morning meal.

OK, it is not the Ritz...but, it is a nice hotel with good housekeeping in the guest rooms!

This small roadside motel looks like it could have been any number of franchised hotels in a prior life. The guest rooms are generously sized and the bathrooms, while a little dated, are clean and everything worked...including water pressure and an ample supply of hot water.

The room was heavily loaded with amenities including a "VCR", refrigerator and microwave oven. Because Kenmare is within the oil boom area in North Dakota, this hotel does attract guests who stay for an extended period of time. You will find a sign asking people with muddy and oily boots to remove them before entering the lobby...and there is a supply of plastic bags positioned right next to the foyer chair. Keep in mind there is a shortage of housing in this region for oil workers and you may have to search a large area to find an available hotel room!

Your room comes with a complimentary continental breakfast...but, don't expect croissants and fine pastries...toast, bagels and plastic boxed cereals are on the menu. If you want something a little more substantial in the evening, there is a large pub/tavern located across the parking lot that will serve up an oil-rigger sized meal with a variety of adult beverages available.

The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet and provided for a very good night's rest.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side are farther away from the highway and a little quieter if you like to sleep w...

Its just about the only game in town. Its older, a basic small town motel. I was hoping for more of a quaint, funky motel with the name, but it was pretty basic. It was clean and and the staff was friendly, the continental breakfast was pretty sparse.

Stayed here at the end of March with another couple... very clean hotel with the standard amenities. The room was of average size, lots of towels, comfortable bed. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. The best part of staying here? The room rate. Only $85 taxes in for a night's stay. Would recommend to anyone who just needs an overnight stay just across the US-Canada border near Northgate. There's also a nice restaurant-bar right beside the parking lot (South of the Border).

I stayed here the night before thanksgiving while traveling, the hotel is nice. It's clean in both the rooms and common areas. The breakfast isn't much but suited my needs just fine (I usually have a piece of toast and glass of milk and they had both!)

I would recommend staying here if you need a room in north western nd!

Quilt Inn- Kenmare ND. This is a nice motel. I stayed here one day in Oct 2012. Staff was very nice and helpful. Cost was $85 per night including taxes. Motel is spotless. They provide bags for muddy shoes. Good parking. Breakfast is dry cereal, milk, yogurt. Coffee a bit weak. Good internet. Heat was good. Quiet. Did not try A/C. No washer and dryer- did not ask if there is a laundry place in town. Town has a couple of gasoline stations. There is only one restaurant- its across the parking lot- I forgot its name. The food was edible. I don't have anything bad to say about Quilt Inn. Clientele was hunters, construction, and the usual travelers. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side may be quieter. There is a trucking operation to the south that makes a buz...
