Hilton Garden Inn Grand Forks

This is only the second time I was in Grand Forks, North Dakota in the the past 6 years....NEVER EVER AGAIN! Let's start off with the "3 diamond hotel". No fan in the bathrooms, NO water pressure in the showers, my skin is still itching from the water!
Evolution beds are a joke. They hide the knob under blankets, covers, so you have to get out of bed to adjust the pressure. HUGE waste of time.

What major hotel chain builds their hotel next to an active railway track and then, via a tv channel, offers free ear plugs.....? The Hilton. Now the food. I saw this salt truck back up to the delivery entrance of the Garden Inn and I thought it was for the streets..turns out it was the daily delivery for the restaurant! I like salt but every, EVERY place I ate in GF was horrible due to the massive amounts of salt.
One bright spot was the Porpoura Coffee House http://www.porpoura.com/porpoura/ in the Columbia mall. Excellent espresso and all of the tips and 5% of sales goes to help low income cancer patients get treatment, meals, gas, etc. FABULOUS!

Sorry for the poor review but it is the truth.

Though there aren't any nearby restaurants that are within walking distance, the hotel is located in a great location. It's convenient to the highway, right next to the University campus, and a short drive to the small downtown area. It would be nice if the restaurant stayed open later for lunch, or offered room service during the day. The shuttle van to the UND hockey games is very convenient. The rooms are spacious, with a front sitting room, and back bedroom area. I would stay here again.

Nice place, freindly, helpful staff. Quick check in. Room were clean and modern. Bed was comfortable. Pool area could be better - pool as pretty small and hot tub was out of order at time we went to the pool. Breakfast was an awesome value, small buffet with made to order omlettes, eggs, waffles, and/or pancakes including coffee & juices for $10 - couldn't get a better breakfast elsewhere for this price. Location was fine for us as we were only staying overnight, however the lack of other restaurants / bars within walking distance would be an inconvenience for longer stays. Agree with other reviewers that you should request a room that does not face the road due to train horns, although they were not that bad... Restaurant closed a little early - we would have gone to the little lounge for a couple drinks if appetizers / snacks were available later,

The location is really terrible, a good 2 miles from restaurants and shopping, they use this to get you to accept sub-par service, poor food preparation and price gouging in their mediocre-at-best "restaurant". The only reason we chose this hotel was because it was close to the job site and because of the reputation of the chain. Our experience thus far has us seriously considering cutting our stay here short by 5 nights and moving to the Holiday Inn Express.

We were visiting the University of North Dakota and decided to stay here because of its relation to UND. Friendly service , clean , comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast(10$) makes a great hotel. The best in Grand Forks , by far has to be the HGI.

We travelled to Grand Forks for a nephew's graduation. We are a large family with several small children so we always need 2 rooms.
This hotel was a nice surprise.
It is very clean. I am very picky about cleanliness issues in hotels, but this hotel seemed to be pretty good in the cleanliness department.
The beds were very comfortable. The climate control systems are nice. If you like things a tad on the cool side when you sleep, you can adjust your room temps to suit your preferences.
The pool is on the small side and we were actually chased out due to the ear-splitting noise that a large family was making. Something about that pool room and the acoustics will just kill your eardrums. I'm used to loud noises but the combination of this particular family of shriekers and the design of the room literally chased us out of there clutching our heads.
The lobby bar will serve you beer, wine, cocktails and a small bar menu of nibble food. The nachos could definitely use a retooling. They were very meager with the toppings and clearly had been microwaved.
The breakfast in the morning is a bit unorganized but we had piping hot made to order omlettes, fresh juices, hot oatmeal, fresh waffles and very good bacon.

All in all, a nice little budget hotel that is clean and bright and located very well.
