Quality Suites
Ranked #37 of 50 Hotels in Fargo
Reviewed July 27, 2014

We overnighted at the Quality Suites in Fargo in July 2014 en route across the northern US.

Overall we gave it a 4: pretty good, great service. Otherwise pretty much what you'd expect from the Choice chain.
Price was pretty good at $86 plus taxes for seniors.
Location is quite close to the I-94, short distance up the I-29 stub.
Reservations made over the Choice Hotels website went OK although they couldn't honour our request for ground floor.
Check-In was quite smooth, super enthusiastic desk clerk.
Service was great! Big thanks to Melinda, who helped to store a soggy bicycle caught in a Fargo thunderstorm. She even pitched in to help towel it dry.
The building itself is a pretty typical Quality / Comfort facility, looks nice enough.
Halls / public spaces well maintained and not smelly.
The rooms are small suites, really a somewhat larger hotel room with a pony wall "divider" separating a sofa (possibly sofa bed?)

Bathroom was adequately sized, real bath tub, adequate counter space, everything worked.
The king bed was quite good.
Sleep quality was unfortunately compromised by noise from people talking outside late into the night.
Cleanliness - passed the dust bunny check. No grungies in the bathroom.

Amenities ...
Internet worked well.
Coffee maker with decaf, but no tea supplied by default (we didn't ask)
Microwave supplied.
Fridge - good, quiet, a little bigger than bar size.
TV, channels were good.

This hotel fit with my expectations of a Quality Inn. The hotel was dated, but clean. The breakfast was very good - waffles, scrambled eggs, sausages, cold cereal, sweet buns. The bed was very comfortable, shower was hot, service was excellent. Also, there is a covered entrance which is a plus when you are arriving in the rain. Having said that, the furniture was so-so, the carpets looked like they had seen better days. We were originally given a room at the very end, but we were concerned about noise. We were upgraded to a room with a hot tub which was in the centre of the hotel. It was quieter and worked very well for us. I would not pay extra for that room, however, even though I liked the location. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so if you have a problem with stairs, ask for a room on the first floor.

After my wife had a negative experience here a few years ago we hadn't been back but figured we'd give it another shot.

Check in was delayed while we waited in an abandoned lobby, when clerk finally arrived he apologized and advised he was having problems with misbehaving kids that he was dealing with and was the only one on duty. The rest of the check in process was handled quickly and efficiently.

The room was a nice setup and size, clean and my only complaints center around the bed. The bedspread was stained and pretty disgusting overall and the bed itself was so worn it basically caved in to the middle and you couldn't get into the bed without rolling to the center of the bed,

The property is being renovated, so it is difficult to rate any higher. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was ok. The breakfast was good. It would appear that this will be a very good place to stay once the renovations are complete. I would probably stay here again in the future.

We have stayed at this hotel a dozen times in the past 5 years but the past few times it has definitely gone downhill. Last time our reservation was messed up so we didn't have enough beds for our family members, even though we reserved an adequate room well in advance online. This time, the hot-tub quit working (the 3rd stay that has happened) even after we were told they had a new guy doing pool maintenance when we checked in and asked about it. The 2nd day, they ran out of towels, so I went down to the front desk the next morning to get some and they "didn't have any". I was told they were all gone - other guests had them. The front desk staff was very unprofessional and had a no-care attitude. Breakfast was poor and they ran out of coffee in the breakfast area and the lobby. Fargo has so many better choices than this one!

We stayed in a very nicely renovated room after being shuffled from the Quality Inn due to door issues. We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel lobby is lovely, the front desk people were very friendly with a greeting every time we walked past. There was new carpet down the hallways and it all looked fresh and clean. The pool is being kept up pretty well for being obviously old. The water was a nice temperature and the hot tub was small but functional. The water started off super hot but cooled as the jets went. There were iron bits circling around in the hot tub but it was quite functional. There were fresh fluffy pool towels. The room was very nice. It had a fridge/microwave/coffee maker/hair dryer/iron. It was obviously all updated (except the shower head) appeared to be new furniture too. The beds were pillow topped mattresses and very comfy. There were plenty of pillows on each bed and the sheets were smooth with a high thread count. Carpets were clean and new. TV was a nice big flat screen. Hotel had good strong WIFI that was free to guests. Noise was not an issue. Breakfast was the usual with waffles and scrambled eggs/bacon or sausage. the first day the eggs were rancid or something (really really really gross) but I ate a strawberry waffle instead. Something I hadn't seen or tried before. It was pink. Still not sure if I would choose it again (chose it by accident) But I'm not poorer for the experience anyways. I would definitely come back here with my family since the room easily sleeps six. Location was very good, close to the mall and movies and the conference we went to. Really enjoyed staying here.

Room Tip: a renovated room will be good.

Manager. This one is actually for your eyes that is of course if you read these reviews.

You need to better train your staff. Upon check in front desk clerk tried their best to upgrade room in the system, couldnt figure it out after 30 minutes.

Next, tried to give receipt for cash payment. Once again, couldn't figure it out.

Lastly, kids running around upstairs in hallway all night and all morning with no supervision. Not smart in this day and age. Come on management take better care of your staff and your guests.
