“An excellent place to eat and have a beer”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

When travelling around, you tend to forget some of the pleasant places right around your home town. Today's review is about the Bulldog Tap, a fairly new place in Fargo only open a couple of years but already quite a watering hole in the Fargo area.

The Bulldog is one of those bars you go to when not looking for fine cuisine or lavish furnishings. It's one of those bars you liked to hit in college or after work, with such features as sports televisions around the place (but not turned up so loud you can't talk) and pop music from the 80's and 90's that doesn't run off the over-30 crowd. There's friendly staff and a short-order cook in the back who really puts out a good burger for a decent price. If you're looking for way more than you can eat, purchase a plate of their nachos and be sure to share because there is no way one person could eat all of that.

The bar serves domestic and upscale beer (like Sam Adams, Blue Moon, etc.) for less than what's charged elsewhere around town. They have a fairly well stocked bar for drinks, but I wouldn't expect to get foo-foo drinks. You'll find the happy hour prices (be there before 6pm for the special) to be a pleasant surprise.

During the week the place is easy to get a seat at, though it gets pretty busy during happy hour. Get there a little early Friday nights, 'cause all those around town get off work and begin the weekend celebration hit the place for happy hour. You can generally expect to get a seat most other nights and the extra people doesn't seem to change the service or the speed of the kitchen...they've always been pretty good about quick service in spite of how busy they might be.
