Picked this race because it fit my schedule, and I had never been to Fargo ("you betcha"). Although the marathon is the main event, the hoopla seems to be a 5K walk/run the night before as they tried to get to 10,000 participants.
All up, the race weekend had ~20,000 runners which was way more than I had expected, although only 1600 were full marathoners.
everything was well organised, but river flooding caused a re-route that included a long stretch of bike path that was out and back (congested with on-coming runners). But other than that it was well organised, strongly supported by locals, and flat!
Stayed in a dorm because hotels were $$ that weekend, and that was an interesting alternative I'd try again.
