When I saw what our weekend accommodation was going to cost us for bed and breakfast, I was a bit concerned that inexpensive would translate into unpleasant. I didn't have to worry about it at all. From the moment we arrived, welcomed by Seipati at reception, it was a good experience. She and the rest of the staff looked after us well throughout our stay. We had an early dinner when we arrived. The food was absolutely delicious - lamb shank, hake and chips and cheeseburgers and chips. We had waffles and cream/ice cream for dessert. Breakfast the next day was quite extensive and delicious as well - eggs, bacon, mince, baked beans, toast, croissants, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, juice and hot drinks. The kids enjoyed the trampoline. The view of the Wilge River is beautiful and we experienced a lovely sunset. The room was very basic, but clean. We were 2 adults and 2 children and asked for 4 single beds, which we got. Overall a good experience, with real value for money.

This hotel is ideally situated on the shores of the Vaal dam. It offers a swimming pool and kids outside play area. We only spent one night there as we had a wedding in the area. The room was neat and had coffee and tea with a kettle. The bathroom had a bath and shower and they provided soap & shampoo.

The breakfast surprised me, they had a warm selection as well as cereals, fruit salad and yogurt; and croissants. The fresh coffee was define and the also provided fruit juice.

I will definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in the Oranjeville area.

Room tip: Choose a room overlooking the pool

We arrived on a Sunday for an overnight stay. A slight glitch when, at 3 pm, I got a call from them asking where we were (still driving from the airport), because they were closing... After some consternation, the receptionist said we should just phone the owner when we arrived, which we did. She arrived in a minute, welcoming and lovely, showing us to our room. We were the only guests, with complete run of the enormous garden that flows down to the Wilge River. The grounds are beautiful, the room was clean and spacious, and the breakfast was delicious. Rooms are arranged in a U-shape, with doors onto the garden and pool courtyard.

Small note, though: check opening times etc. The bar and restaurant was closed, it being Sunday, as was the rest of Oranjeville, except for the supermarket. The Herberg Hotel kindly offered to make us a toasted sandwich if we didn't find anything in town, but we bought bread and avo and had a little picnic on the banks of the river, watching a spectacular sunset.
