We got into town today and made a last minute reservation for 8pm, which they accommodated. This was our first time at 22 North and we found it on Trip Advisor. The staff was friendly and efficient. They bring a blackboard around to your table which lists all of the items available that day (that is the full menu)-they had a nice selection of salads (our entrees came with them-we had Caesar and Spinach-both of which, were very good), appetizers and entrees. This was the first time we'd seen a menu done in this fashion and it was great, since I can never make up my mind when there are too many choices! Nice selection of fresh seafood. We had the Black Sea Bass and the Shrimp and Grits. Both were tasty but we both LOVED the shrimp and grits! The bread basket selection was yummy but wish they gave you more (it was sparse!). This could be a place for groups of adults or a family.

The chef and his offerings are excellent, high-quality food, creative and beautifully presented. This is actually surprising, given how casual the environment -- menus on chalkboards, paper tablecloths, wait staff dressing very casually as well. If you want a classy, romantic setting, this is not the place. However, since it is a beach town, you may not want to dress up much, but want to enjoy a quality of food that is generally served at a white tablecloth restaurant. If so, you'd be quite happy here with your meal. The cuisine is seafood and other offerings with a French Creole slant. Overall, a top pick for the area.

We took groups of 25 + to this restaurant two nights in a row for a meeting. The owner and staff bent over backwards to make our meetings go off without a hitch, work around our price range and deliver fantastic food and wine. The servers were knowledgeable and courteous, the food was hot and fresh, and the atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. I highly recommend for a couples night out or a group gathering. When you can please a large group of women...you are doing something! I didn't even mention the desserts....delicious! We are making plans to come back again next year.

Pros: The food was well prepared, sevice was good, the choice of beers and wines was more than adequate. Ambiance was quiet with no loud music; lighthing was perhaps a little too dark.
Cons: Parking may be a problem in the busy season. No local seafood was offered even though this is a "beach" restaurant.

The total cost for two was $70 exclusive of tip, so this places the restaurant in the above average category. For this price, however, we received expertly prepared food and a variety of drinks.

We ordered the scallops en papillotte; these are scallops prepared in a parchment bag with a cream sauce and vegetables. My rating was very good. The scallops were perfectly seared on one side only to prevent them from overcooking--perfect! The vegetables were caramelized first and then combined with the scallops and cream sauce and then baked. We also had the scallops with applewood smoked bacon en-brochette. Again, expertly prepared and cooked just right.

The fried green tomatoes were tangy and crisp, not at all soggy. The corn fritter was well prepared but a little too sweet for my taste. The rice was well done and not sticky.

The home baked breads and muffins were good but not spectacular. The cheese muffin was a little on the salty side.

Drinks consisted of hard to find Fisher Alsatian beer (many choices available besides this one), a flight of three white wines consisting of California Riesling, California Chenin Blank/Viognier, Argentina Rodolfo. We ordered an additional three glasses of Viognier. All the wine choices suited us just fine. So, yes, more than half the money went to liquor!

Carpeting on the floor keeps the noise down. The music was way down low, and there are murals on the wall.

An all toghether positive experience and we would return here.

Went to this restaurant after finding out the Oceanic was not open yet due to renovations. Good reviews on tripadvisor made me make the first reservation call since we had a party of six...mostly teenage girls. Though most of them were not seafood lovers(but I was) the website said they had other options as well. These other "options" were from their daily menu an overpriced($18) shells and cheese w chicken and sandwiches from their bar menu. I had their stuffed salmon, my wife shrimp and grits. My meal was great! However, the girls were not impressed with theirs. Fortunately, they were not that hungry and decided to split the meal with each other. This helped a lot with the final bill. Since, it was my daughters 18th birthday, they gave a free dessert to which she shared with her friends.
The service was good. It is a casual atmosphere there with relatively good food. I think people think they can charge more cause it's a beach area. Even in the off season of March. It makes me want to stay in the city to get really good food with plenty of competition around to keep the prices reasonable.
