I drove from my hotel to the beach to see the sunrise. Not enough clouds for a great moment but beautiful reflections, bird shots, and geometrics along the fish pier.

The beach is not crowded even on the busiest summer days, but it's on a barrier island with strong currents pulling on the inlets at either end. The rip tides can be ferocious and tyere seems to be at least one drowning each year. So enjoy the each, but swim near a lfeguard stand, preferebly near the Holiday Inn Sunspree, where you can probably sneak in to use their pool. THe hotel raised pation is a great place to enjoy a magnificent oceab view and then walk down to amble along the beach.

Every time my husband and I visit Wrightsville Beach we feel like we have found heaven on earth. It honestly has it all. Beautiful beach for shell seeking, the very enjoyable "Loop" for exercise and fresh air, Johnnie Mercer Pier for fishing, the bird sanctuary to observe incredible wildlife, great restaurants for dining, sunsets over the Intercoastal Waterway and it is ALL located within minutes of everything you may need in the city of Wilmington.

Outstanding beach, great for surfing, boogie boarding, playing in the surf. Nothing to see snorkeling, but still a good adventure. Lots to do on and off the island.
During the summer, it can take an hour or more to get on the island, more if you want a parking spot within small children's walking distance to the beach. All parking is pay parking, the systems are down regularly and there is no provision for this. The parking police are very swift and efficient, I've been as little as 10 minutes late after 3-4 hours on the beach and found a ticket on my car. I've even taken a picture of my dash, with my watch, the not-yet expired parking pass, and a ticket, and they insisted that I had to drive back to Wrightsville to fight the ticket.
However, if you're staying at a local hotel or house with parking, the beach is wonderful. There are lots of decent and some good restaurants, many within walking distance. Great beach for walking, and good attractions for those who want to do more exciting things.

The hotel is located at the end of the main strip so I liked the privateness. Pleny of activity, just not overwhelming.
