Augustus T. Zevely Inn
Reviewed January 19, 2013

We took a little road trip to see some art and family. Decided to try a stay in Old Salem instead of the usual chain hotel. The Inn was a great location to stay. Though this is not the busiest time of year, there was still a lot to walk around and see. The Inn is right in the middle of things and across the street from the Tavern. Very convenient. It does have off street parking, but this time of year we parked right in front of the Inn.

The room was very pleasant, bed was comfortable and all the plumbing worked, though it is a one person bathroom. Not unusual for a historic home like this.

The Innkeeper and her assistant were both very friendly and helpful.

We will return again when the weather is better and Old Salem more active. Regardless a nice place to quarter.

Inn is right in the middle of Old Salem across from the Tavern. We thought it might be noisy as our room fronted on the main street, but very quiet. Stayed in the Augustus Zevely Room. Large room with a comfortable bed. Also nice room darkening drapes. Great water pressure and hot water which is not always the case in an old home One comfortable reading chair and lamp so other person doesn't have a place to read in the room unless they use the bed or sit on a straight chair. Good breakfast - besides regular Continental stuff had sausage biscuits on weekday and French toast and sausage one day on weekend day and sausage casserole and another casserole on the other weekend end day. Also zucchini bread and pumpkin bread. The cons were temperature control - although there was a thermostat, it seemed to be either on or off. The place is very warm so we just kept the heat off, even opened a window the day we arrived. No wine and cheese as advertised. No toiletry amenities - only shampoo and soap - again unusual for a B&B in our experience.

We stayed two nights at the Zevely Inn. The home, built in the 1800's has lots of charm and beautiful wide plank squeaky floors. Linda the innkeeper was very friendly and helpful. We had a nice visit with her and another guest in the parlor, which was decorated for Christmas. We would return for another visit. great location, easy access to all of Old Salem, and Sale College.

I hope my friends remain in Winston-Salem, so i have a reason to return to the Zeverly Inn B&B. We stayed in a lovely room with a fireplace, where we entertained our friends in the evening and had our first cups of coffee in the morning. Although the inn is historic, it is modernized and pristine. Its location is in the historic district of Old Salem and adjacent to Salem College, where we took a wonderful night time walk. Breakfast was first rate. The inn-keeper, Linda, provided a warm and gracious welcome and insights into local history-old and recent.

Room Tip: The Winter Kitchen room has a gas fireplace and private location.

Our first visit to Old Salem. Wanted to stay close to things & thought this would be a good choice. Not at all disappointed. Able to walk to everything in the area along with good food across the street at the tavern.
Inn keeper Linda was very friendly & provided extra information on things in the area. Very nice room & lovely place overall. Only stayed one night, but plan to return. We were there Nov 14th, so colors were gone but oh so peaceful in the town.

A wonderfully restored home from the 1800's turned in to a charming B&B makes a great place to stay for a modest price and includes a freshly made breakfast. This is a quiet homey place with access to the home, grounds,, veranda,etc.. It is in the heart of the historic district and is perfect for that get-away weekend.

We had not visited Old Salem in years, although we actually like it better than Colonial Williamsburg. We had always gone there before on day trips, but since it was the week of our anniversary, decided to stay at the Augustus T. Zevely Inn for a couple of nights. From the moment we walked in, we were enchanted by this beautiful, historical inn. We were welcomed immediately by Linda, the kind and gracious innkeeper, who checked us in and showed us to our room on the second floor. We love history, and it was truly like stepping back in time to stay here, right in the middle of Old Salem. We arrived a little too late to visit any of the shops, and my husband had forgotten to purchase a few Cokes to have on hand for later. To our surprise, Linda bought an eight-bottle pack and gave them to us - would not let us pay for them! Linda and Cherie, the inn's chef, were the most wonderful hostesses ever. Cherie's deluxe continental breakfasts were fantastic - homemade muffins and granola, coffee cakes, fresh fruit and more. The coffee was out-of-this-world - I never drink four cups of coffee at any meal, but I did at these breakfasts. And Linda's homemade chocolate chip cookies were the best we had ever eaten! Since this was the middle of the week, there were not many guests, and the four of us sat at our breakfast table and talked for two hours afterwards! Although this inn is very special, these two ladies made it more so. We loved this trip so much we bought a membership for Old Salem and plan to return to the Augustus T. Zevely Inn as soon as we can - it is truly an unique experience to stay here.

Room Tip: We loved our room (Lucinda Bloom) and it was only $100 per night - an unbelievable rate for such a n...
