This place is always consistent. Good food at a great price. On the spring and summer they have wonderful outdoor seating.

“Great neighborhood restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is a great place to go for an early or late dinner. Being near Wake Forest University, it can be very crowded. The exterior/tent seating is less desirable, but the extra seating helps one have a shorter wait. The wait staff are always warm and friendly and the food is always good.

We are new to the Winston area and this restaurant was recommend to us. The food was well prepared and there were a good variety of menu choices. We will definitely eat here again.

“Experience the "Original" Village Tavern”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2014

When people tell me they enjoyed a meal at "the" Village Tavern in Winston-Salem, I have to ask: which one? Same ownership, very similar menu, great food and service … and that's where the similarity ends. Want a quiet romantic dinner? Serious business lunch? The original Village Tavern is NOT the one to choose. Located adjacent to the campus of Wake Forest University, the original Village Tavern is more like … well, a tavern, a village pub in merry old England. Dark woods, and a relatively low ceiling (I mean, you won't have to duck, just don't expect what you find at the "other" VT). The ambience? Friendly, noisy, warm, welcoming without being a sports bar. This Village Tavern is in Reynolda Village, a quaint historic setting where you can shop, enjoy a day spa, walk through the gardens, create your own original art, and much more.

The wait time depends on the time of day and the college schedule (forget trying to get in around graduation unless you're the one graduating and have to have just one more meal there). I arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night and there was still a wait for a table. I just wanted a spot at the bar, grabbed the only one open and was served promptly. By 8:15, you could have come in with a party of ten and found a place. So, on to the food and service: I have been a customer for over 20 years and I find it to be consistently outstanding … for lunch, dinner or brunch. Two last observations: if you want to eat when everyone else wants to eat, expect a wait because it's a local favorite. And, when you do go, expect to feel like you've walked onto the set of "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. It's just that kind of place.

“Eat outside on the covered porch if you can!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2014 via mobile

Good atmosphere for casual dining! Set in historic Reynolda Village, behind the RJR Reynolds home. (The Reynolds house is now a museum) order the Tavern salad with grilled salmon. Love the apple nut muffins served with it. The trout is also delicious.
