We had seen ads in the North Carolina magazine, Our State, and my wife finally decided to give it a try for my birthday weekend. So four of us went, two couples, and bought the deal where you get a room, breakfast, dinner, tour of Graylyn and tour of Reynolda House.

We stayed in the house, itself, in room 208. The other couple had room 211. Both were very nice. Old style - not modernized, but extremely cozy and wonderful.

We checked in a little early with no problems. After grabbing a lunch in downtown Winston-Salem, we went and availed ourselves of our free tour of the Reynolda House. It, too, was very beautiful and we wished we had saved more time for it. The grounds were also very beautiful.

Our dinner in one of the enclosed porches in the Graylyn was very good. Nice, quiet atmosphere, excellent service and great food. As one can imagine, the selection was limited but covered all the bases (pork, fish, beef, poultry).

After dinner, we wandered around the house a bit, including a bit of an outside walk though it was getting quite cool. We felt like we had the house all to ourselves. There are so many rooms to explore, including the basement where the lounge (bar) was located.

After a wonderful night's sleep, we took in breakfast which was a hot buffet and got to sit in the Persian Card Room to eat! The food was very good, as was the service. After breakfast, we had our butler tour, which was the highlight of the weekend. Bill, our guide, was fabulous. We saw every nook and cranny in the house, including several of the more plush suites. He took us to the Mews which has some interesting rooms, including a two-story room in a silo! He was an EXCELLENT guide.

All in all, we had a wonderful time at the Graylyn and recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet, old world atmosphere.

Room Tip: Although the Mews seemed quite nice, I would try to stay in the house, itself. It's just easier...

Been here for a Mckinsey training program in november 2013. This is a "museum" converted into a conference place. Even if you are not staying here you should visit this hotel, as I bet is a major attraction in this area. Making meetings in rooms that are made to resemble a french chateau is a nice thing.

Room is pretty standard with some plumbing problems during peak hours, some friends had serious issues with hot/cold water. However a collegue got a large bug in his room, and even with statements of the hotel coming in telling us that they "search" the place at regular intervals and proving support for him after the discovery, it is still a large bug found within a room.

For conference food I would put it here as a step above of what is expected (claiming it is an attraction like they do, is a strech).

Even with dozens of employees around they didn´t meet some basic hotel stuff, simple stuff as providing a power adapter (so much for the "international conference center" part). Or providing usefull directions on how to walk around the property, they sent me straight into a non sidewalked road, where I had no option but to turn around.

Room Tip: There are really small rooms in property. Be aware to avoid those when checking in.

We just returned from a college visit to Wake Forest and staying at the Graylyn elevated our experience. Everything about this property is beyond lovely. We arrived late and ate in the main property lower level. You feel like you are in a castle with the beautiful furnishings and historic rooms. The food, by the way, was very good. We were then escorted to the Mews for the night. Because the property is old, I was bracing myself for an older room. Our room was beautiful and recently renovated as all rooms are I believe. The bed, linens, bathroom were modern and comfortable. Close to our room was a work out facility and a beautiful shop with beer, wine, free ice cream treats and tables to socialize or work. The grounds are lovely with pool, pond, swans, and walking trails. Included in your stay, is a delicious breakfast at either the Mews or the main house. We ate in the main house porch and the selection is like a country club brunch - omelets, oatmeal, pancakes, etc., etc. Everyone that works at the Graylyn bend over backward to be kind and helpful. This is a Ritz or Four Season experience! I promise you will love it here!

Room Tip: We peeked at a room in the main building - beautiful! The rooms in the Mews are lovely too! The ma...

I was hoping that i would be writing a good review as a followup to a wonderful weekend stay, but no. We stayed here a year ago, in the Mews. It was lovely. So this year, we booked two rooms with another couple for the weekend of October 11-12. We booked a few months in advance and I had a long discussion about the room we wanted, ultimately on the Manor House, as all areas were available.

I called to confirm about 4-5 days before and was told we were now in the Mews. Had a long conversation again about why with no real explanation other than they were booked. I did confirm that our rooms were still king rooms.

The day of arrival, we check in and they take us to our room, which was nice, but two beds. Made a call and was told that they decided to upgrade us to some type of suite in the hopes that we would be happy. However, they did not mention that during check-in. We noted that we wanted king beds, so they dug around and found us a room. We go there and look around only to realize we had a tiny bathroom with a tub, not the walk-in shower we were expecting based on our previous stay.

So we tell the person from the Mews who is helping us find a room that at $259 a night, that isn't acceptable, and filled her in on our whole story. She then noted that she could fill in the holes that didn't make sense. Apparently a doctor rents the Manor House every year. He had it tentatively booked for this year, but that doesn't reserve the rooms. So in the meantime, they book three weddings on site, and then he calls to say he wants the Manor House, which he ultimately gets.

Apparently that, and the three booked weddings made us the easy people to shuffle without telling us in advance, offering to reduce the price for our inconvenience, or ever really making any apologies.

I am not sure how much the manager knew through all of this, but Katie and her staff could stand to take a lesson in customer care and room management.

Ultimately, we told them we were tired of being shuffled around and that they clearly had too much on their plate to take care of the "normal" customers, so we moved over to the Marriott in downtown Winston Salem and had a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Apparently, based on what the reservations lady at the Mews said, you need to specify the exact room...

We stayed in the Mews, and it was fabulous! So pretty, and the rest of the hotel was beautiful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The staff was so helpful and genuine, and there was free ice cream!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mews, 2 doors down from where Oprah usually stays in room 713. The room was a great...

Totally have enjoyed every visit here. Some of the rooms are newer than others and some older. Overall a great group of employees with a genuine effort to make you feel comfortable while away from home. A great kid well done! Food is good not top 10 but definitely this place is dependable and most enjoyable!

The Service was impeccable - courteous with ample time to help you with any need. The room was charming yet spacious and well-appointed. And the grounds were stunning. Breakfast was delicious with many choices. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: mews or main house.
