We were on our way to Myrtle Beach and anticipating staying at this historical place as it was our 50th wedding anniversary. We arrived about 3:15, told room not ready- fine we went across the street to see the attractions there. The grounds and buildiing appear beautiful as you enter property, however, inside, neither the furniture or building were not polished, not clean in appearance. At 4:00, told room ready- we were directed to cottage which appeared to be well taken care of, nice bathroom, furniture, up-to-date paint, however, when we pulled down the covers, the sheets were wrinkled, had numerous black hairs on sheets, muddy shoe prints by the bed, and other unmentionable item on comforter. We were obviously waiting for someone to finish a tryst and they didn't bother to clean it up. After requesting clean sheets, we found more disgusting things so we asked not to be charged and left- Employees were not geared to customer satisfaction! This place is basically beautiful and has great potential if properly managed!

I stayed at Graylyn in June, 2012 and wrote a review entitled "Graylyn Rocks!". I had the good fortune of staying there once again May 3-5 and I'm pleased to report "Graylyn Still Rocks!" Graylyn is a wonderful old historic estate built of stone so it, does indeed, literally rock! The Estate is stunning and magnificent. The grounds (55 acres) are beautifully maintained and, combined with the interior of the estate, is an invitation to a life of magnificent luxury. As a guest of the Estate, one can quite literally be caught up in the ambiance of "Donwton Abbey." The Graylyn staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and always very helpful. Meals are exquisite and well worth the price. My wife and I have enjoyed many of the finest hotels in the USA and abroad but we would choose Graylyn over any others. Reynolda Village and Reynolda Museum of American Art and many other museums and attractions, e.g., SECCA (Southeast Center for Contemporay Art) and SciWorks, are within easy walking distance. The NC wine country (Yadkin Valley Appellation) is 30 minutes away. UNC School of the Arts (with its 400+ drama, film, music and dance performances annually) is 10 minutes away as is Old Salem. Wake Forest University is 5 minutes away. Our past visit was because the Estate was chosen as the location for the NC Chapter of the Knights of the Vine Grand Assemblage and the event was truly Grand! We enjoyed our stay very much!

The Graylyn is magical and much more than a luxury hotel. The restored manor house and mews transports you to another place and time; you have to experience it's beauty as it is impossible to express in words. The grounds, the rooms, which have modern amenities, and the service make you feel pampered and very special. My husband and I have stayed here 4 times, visiting our daughter at Wake Forest, and have had a truly memorable stay each time. We never want to leave and will plan to visit the Graylyn for many years; even when our daughter is not in Winston Salem as the Graylyn is too special not to go back to.

Room Tip: We love the Mews, but have also had a beautiful room in the Manor House.

Take yourself back in time with stone buildings with what used to be horse stables and chicken coops. Not what you think of but the most beautiful preserved buildings from the Reynolds Tobacco heirs. Which were donated to the Wake Forest campus. We stayed in a seperate room from the main hotel which had all the accomodations you need, Very friendly employees to walk around the property with you and show you the grounds. Their was avan waiting for us to take us to the man building for meals or to take us into town for a meal in another restaurant. I cant wait to go back!

Room Tip: Stay in one of the rooms seperate from the main hotel it is beautiful! A wonderful kept secret of t...

Graylyn is one of those gems you only hear about. It is the conference center for Wake Forest University but I believe rooms are available to outside guests when not booked for university functions. Only minutes from the campus, this is gracious living of a different era. The English country estate is located on several hundred acres with a gracious long drive, out buildings with accommodations and a beautiful pond in between. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained to give you views in all directions. And you are right across the street from lovely Reynolda Gardens and its miles of trails and treks.

My room was in the Mews with its own gym, office lounge and a lovely dining area for breakfast. The room was small but beautifully decorated and appointed. It made for a very pleasant couple of days. Breakfast was simple but tasty and coffee was always on. The gym was also a perfect size with the equipment clean and in tip top shape. A perfect way to start the day or wind down.

And speaking of winding down, the walk down to the pond, across the bridge and over to the big house was breathtaking. And every room of the estate was a gracious adventure. The spacious living room with fire place and views of the pond, the crystal chandeliered dining rooms, a charming Chinese lacquered sitting room, a beautifully paneled library and even an iindoor pool with original exotic tiled walls. It was truly from a different era.

Room Tip: The mews were very comfortable and quiet. If you want to be close to the action, ask for a room in...

With the grandeur of a castle, but great southern hospitality, we enjoyed our Easter 2013 stay at Graylyn. Standard exquisite rooms with the convenience of what seemed like club level made our stay to visit our daughter at Wake Forest a fine mini vacation. The staff was warm and inviting. The free water and ice cream provided hit just the spot after a grueling 4 hour hike at nearby Pilot Mountain. Next time we will take advantage of the provided bikes and explore the trails surrounding the property. We were awed by every corner of the main house and the grounds that we explored. Earlier in the year, we paid for a visit to Reynolda House and I truly believe this manor topped that.

Room Tip: The Mews is where we stayed they are the newest and most modern. The Manor house is gorgeous, too...

I stayed at Graylyn for a business meeting at Wake Forest. I felt like royalty during my entire stay, from the welcome I received, to the attentive waitstaff at breakfast and lunch, and in the evening when I returned to see a chocolate and a comfy robe on the turned-down bed. There is a van to take you anywhere you need to go, and the drivers are gracious and funny. My only complaint is that I did not build in one more day just to enjoy the bungalow suite and 24x7 ice cream! At first I thought the rate was a little pricey, but breakfast is included - a real breakfast. There was a chef to prepare a choice of egg dishes, grits and oatmeal, pancakes with hot cinnamon apples or syrup, sausage and bacon, fresh fruit and pastries, and cereals. I will not stay anywhere else the next time I am in town!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Bungalow, room 501. It was a lovely suite with sitting area.
