The food is wholesome and there are choices as long as you get there early. I had a peach salad, plenty of breads and peppermint iced tea.

“Exceeding expectations”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

In the middle of a tourist attraction (Old Salem village), one simply doesn't expect an eating experience like the Tavern at Old Salem. The lunch prices were quite reasonable. The menu was extensive and interesting, and our two meals were prepared with top quality ingredients, combined in interesting and tasty ways. Add excellent service (when was the last time you were greater in a restaurant with a handshake?), good atmosphere. It's a place we could go return to, independent of its location in Old Salem.

“YumYum”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

We were here in May, the place was very busy but we didn't have to wait to long for a table. We were seated outside in a pavilion, which was very nice. There were 5 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. I split a Barbeque, bacon & jalapeno cheddar burger and a grilled bratwurst with my mother- both were equally good. The staff were all very friendly and our service was quick for how busy it was. Little on the expensive side- expect to spend around $8-10 for a sandwich- it is the only place to eat there now though.

“Best meal on vacation!”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

The tavern is wonderful for Dinner! We went to dinner at the Tavern after an afternoon on Old Salem Street. We were there for over two hours having a very slow dinner at our choice. We told our Waiter we were not in a hurry and took our time with a five coarse meal! Bryan is a fantastic waiter! He gave us wonderful suggestions and went out of his way to accomodate my seafood and nut allergies!
We had Pear salad, Fried green tomatoes with Proscuitto. The Whole slate which is a very generous plate of meat and cheese selections. The slate included Duck.. Best meat and cheese tray I have ever had and the largest at a reasonable price. my husband and I shared the Boar Shank that had been marinated in a red wine sauce with carrots and asparagus. We had Gingerbread cake with bits of christalized ginger and paired with Homemade lemon ice cream. My Husband enjoyed two glasses of Honey badger. We did share the salad and the tomatoes as well as the dessert and we were very full after all this. my husband had coffee and the bill came out to $76 plus tip. A bargain! A very nice way to end a wonderful afternoon! Bryan is to praised for his service! he helped make our experience perfect. We went to the Inn across the street after Dinner to stay for the night. Not to be missed this colonial style Tavern!

“Good Food, Weird Creepy Owner”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

The food was pretty good but over-priced for what you got. It was nice, but the owner kept walking around, stopping, and staring at people. He didn't smile, and just creeped us out. Very strange man. Looked like a serial killer. Unfortunately, it is the only place in Old Salem and they certainly take advantage of this fact.
