Supper at Mundo Global Tapas on Fourth Street. Second night open. Wait staff still a bit unsettled and buzzing about but helpful and informed about the dishes, some of which are fairly complex. Chatted with Chef Jared Lee. Talented fellow. True to the name -- Mundo -- his dishes have an international flair to them. Clearly has set himself apart from other WS restaurants. In our competative restaurant world that is what you have to do. Just another restaurant will not do.
Many small dishes -- imaginative, well-executed and presented including South American, Asian and Middle East inspired. Menu represents much research and determination to create a place that is indeed special. Chef Jared's earlier stint down the street won him fans quickly and left diners with sad faces when he moved on. Dined alone al fresco and enjoyed visiting with friends at nearby tables or promenading on Winston-Salem's Restaurant Row -- now a regional dining destination. The irrepressable food blogger/gourmand Nikki Miler-Ka was at the next table. My favorite outdoor dining spot in the city and perfect weather for it. I give my meal five stars. Had this restaurant opened yesterday in Charleston, the southern culinary world would already be abuzz. Applause for Chef Jared.
