“Interesting if You Like to Roam Old Cemeteries”

This is an interesting place to spend time if old cemeteries fascinate you the way they do me. This Moravian burial ground is unique. The most striking thing was that the headstones were all flat symbolically expressing the equality of individuals before God. The other thing that was noteworthy was that the Moravians were buried by their choir (group). As such, the graves of men and women were separated and there were general age groupings as well. The oldest graves were from the early- to mid-1700s. All of the tombstones were legible making the experience optimally interesting. If you are the type to enjoy a cemetery stroll, make sure to take a walk through this place. It not only provided interesting reading that took my mind back a couple of centuries, it was also a subtle cultural lesson concerning a group that not many understand.

Seems strange to be rating a cemetery but this was a very interesting place. This the burial ground for the Moravian community. All of the tombstones are the same...men and women and children are buried in separate areas...etc. I did not know much about this religion before visiting Old Salem and it was very interesting.

God's Acre is a very quiet, serene, clean, well-kept cemetery. It is worth walking through. It reminds you of the Arlington Cemetery in DC. You won't be disappointed.

This is one cemetery that isn't depressing! It's well groomed and all headstones are flat, white marble of the same size, giving the area a clean, organized look. Combine that with huge trees, and you've got a serene place to catch a breath and feel a sense of peace.

It is laid out so neatly and orderly, the burial order is different than anything we are use to. There were some very old headstones; I loved reading their final remarks! We walked out using the tree covered road; very pretty!
