This is probably not a kid's first choice for fun, but it is a very nice day trip for adults. The tour is interesting and the horse and buggy rides are relaxing and romantic. But the #1 reason for heading to Old Salem is the authentic Moravian Bakery. The Sugar Cake is beyond delicious fresh from the ovens. But try to get there early because it is extremely popular and has a tendency to sell out. If you get there and they tell you a batch is baking do yourself a favor and wait for it. You won't be sorry you did. The day old stuff you get in the stores around Winston is not worth your money. A Sugar Cake has to be eaten the day it is baked. The breads are wonderful and the cookies are very good. All in all it is a nice afternoon out.

It is very interesting. It can be a little rigorous walking around all day with very few places to sit but it is worth it at least once.

I had a very quick trip to Old Salem for a lunch meeting and shop at museum gift shop. I really enjoyed lunch as well as the trip to the bakery. The gift shop was disappointing, but I did find other shopping options that were more interesting. I'm entrigued, and look forward to returning for more exploration.
