A decent hotel, recently renovated that is operated by the Hospital. It offers a free shuttle to the hospital. We stayed in a suite, which was very roomy and comfortable. Nothing fancy. Free wi-fo that is painfully slow at times. Free breakfast that I would say is worth the price paid. Staff is generally pleasant, not exceptional. There is a significant discount if you are a hospital/clinic patient making it a solid value. Otherwise, I don't suspect we would return.

I always try to stay at the Hawthorne when I am in Winston-Salem. Its comfortable, affordable and has a really convenient location. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Also set up well for business travelers with big desks and good wireless internet access. But the best part of staying at the Hawthorne is the kindness and effectiveness of the staff. There is no problem to big for them to solve.

We were there for a conference and I thought the price of the room was a little over-priced for the hotel, average at best. The cleanliness of the hotel and the friendliness of each and every staff member that I encountered was very positive.

Room Tip: My room was on the bottom floor at the end of the hall which was great bc we didn't have to bother with the elevator.

I had a nice stay, but it is not an ideal property for business travel. The staff is just not trained to deal with simple matters like shipping & receiving, directions, restaurant tips and the like, though they were always courteous and pleasant. The nice in-room kitchen had no utensils of any kind (no dishes, glasses, flatware or even a bottle opener) rendering itself useless I am sorry to say. Overall, this is a clean and well managed property, and a good value for the price conscious.
