We really enjoyed the facilities and the service was top drawer. In addition, building architecture and history was great. Our disappointment was with the over priced rooms and the unremarkable breakfasts. In addition, the area menus were outdated. We will not be returning.

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice. Do AVOID the antique area (New Castle Art and Antique district on Castle b...

A beautifully restored southern mansion with charm and class. Upscale and comfy at the same time. Our host-and owner-Denis, greeted us on the porch and made us feel welcome right away. We were given a tour of the inn and great insider info about the best places to eat, shop, or just take in the sights of Wilmington. Take time time relax on the 'veranda' with a nice glass of wine! Ahhhhhh! Breakfast was delicious, homemade, and served with a story and a smile! French pressed coffee, juices, fresh fruit and cream, souffle`, sausage!
The hospitality was wonderful. The inn was very cleaned. The beds were comfortable with nice linens. The location was very convenient. There wasn't anything NOT to love about this place! It definitely has earned its 4 Diamond standing!

We stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We had a front bedroom which was excellent and very comfortable. The breakfast was most enjoyable, that means not only the food but also the company sitting round the table.
Drinks and nibbles were offered around 5pm to 6pm, in fact we were encouraged to use this facility. Chuck and Denis offered advice about restaurants and things to do and were generally helpful.
We enjoyed our stay in Wilmington which is different but just as attractive as better known places further south such as Charleston and Savannah.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3 which was excellent, we cannot comment on other rooms because we did not see the...

The strap line is "Second to Nun" (the address) and they are so right. Chuck and Denis, the inn, keepers have rescued a historic house in a beautiful location and over the years with love and a real eye for design have created a wonderful home which they share with travellers from all over the world. From the moment we pulled into the tree lined street in the historic area of Willington we knew we were going to enjoy our stay.
Chuck was the perfect host showing us round and making us feel very welcome. Each room and en suite bathroom is unique; a mix of antiques and flea market finds that they have made their own with a touch of paint or a new lampshade. Our family had 2 rooms, both lovely and well appointed.
After settling in we joined other guests for a chilled glass of wine and in the ‘butler’s pantry’ where menus from recommended local restaurants were laid out to help guests decide where to go for dinner. Having spent the last week in different hotels we enjoyed the more relaxed atmosphere meeting other guests and swopping stories and tips on where to go and what to see.
Breakfast was served round a large antique table in the dining room. There were 10 guests staying on the night we were there and we enjoyed eating together as friends. Chuck created an amazing breakfast and everything was served on fine china and with real flair and great presentation.
Wilmington is lovely and The Verandas is the jewel in the crown. A real treasure and we just wished we could stay longer. A unique experience to be highly recommended.

Room Tip: All unique and different - not a bad room in the house

We stayed two nights in this wonderful B&B. The house is conveniently located in historic Wilmington and a short walk to the Boardwalk where you can find nice restaurants and shops. My boyfriend and I had a packed weekend between going to the Cape Fear Rugby Sevens Tournament and the beach, but every time we walked in the door of The Verandas, a weight seemed to lift off our shoulders. Chuck is a great host and very helpful. Breakfast was always yummy. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely choose The Verandas again if we're down in that neck of the woods.

Oh, one more thing...we stayed in Room #2 and the bathroom was huge. All of the bathrooms may be similar, but I'm not sure.

From the moment we arrived at The Verandas B&B, we were greeted with true southern hospitality & beauty! The owners, Chuck & Dennis welcomed us to their home which was simply gorgeous inside & out. The home, adorned with fine antiques & filled with history & charm, gave to us a warm & inviting feel. We loved swinging on the porch swing after arriving back from dinner each night. Other amenities included afternoon wine, snacks, a fridge stocked full of soft drinks & beer & purely delicious water...be sure to ask for it as you will not find it bottled. The Verandas' location is perfect as it is in the heart of the historic district & is a short walk to the River Walk shops & restaurants. Our room was large yet very cozy, quiet, beautifully decorated & spotless. The linens were plush & an oh so very comfortable bed. A most delicious full course breakfast was served each morning & was a special time for us as we enjoyed meeting & talking with other guests. Thank you Chuck & Dennis for your kindness. You covered every detail well. Our stay was wonderful & our weekend was perfect. The Verandas is truely "second to nun"!

We stayed for 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer! The place was beautiful inside and out. Chuck and Dennis were fantastic hosts (as well as chefs). They had good recommendations for restaurants and sights to see. Breakfast was a lovely treat to begin time exploring the River Walk which was 2 short blocks away. If you want a relaxed, quiet time to explore and rest, this is the place to go. We will recommend The Verandas to everyone!

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs, choose rooms 1 thru 4!
