“Ridiculous! Could not gain entrance to tour the attraction!!”

I took my daughter and some visiting family members to tour the Latimer House. Prior to heading downtown, we checked and found that it was open from 11-5 pm on Saturdays. There was no way to reserve a spot for a tour so we assumed that it was a fairly open admission policy. We arrived at Latimer House at 12:45 and found a sign at the door that the next tour did not begin until 2:15!!! We spent some time downtown and came back at 2:05 so as not to miss the tour....only to find the sign had changed and now said that the next tour didn't begin until 3:00!!!!!!! After several attempts ringing the doorbell, an employee finally answered and said that they had already started another tour and that we would have to wait until 3:00 because tours are based on a first come, first serve basis!!! However, there is no way to sign up for the next tour or notify the staff if you hope to be included on a tour. I guess we could have sat on the porch for 50-55 minutes so that we wouldn't be left behind again, but we were quite disgusted by the treatment. Latimer House lost a considerable amount of money and we will not be returning!

Tour guide was very nice and informative. Learned a lot. House was beautiful. Could take pictures. Learned about this house while on the ghostwalk so came back the next day to tour the house.

Not a bad use of half an hour or so, but I think it was ten dollars each - and no reduction if you're a Latimer who's made the trip from England!

We had got to this house on the late side, but the tour guide still took us on a tour of the house. This house is more decorated then the others and I enjoyed hearing the history of the Latimer's. I also found it interesting that they still had the slave quarters in the back even though we could not go in them it was still an insight into the past. I'd say stop by and take the tour.
