This is a small museum, they do have a restaurant which is pretty ok. As with all art, it has everything to do with your taste as to whether it is a good time to visit. When I visited earlier this summer with my 26 year old daughter we enjoyed a nice lunch together. The art exhibit at this time was not to our liking, however, there will be times when it is.

This is a very well organized museum with some remarkable exhibits. It is a tribute to its many donors and a far-seeing board. They do not attempt to be all things to all people, but do have an increased focus on local artists.
Saw a remarkable colletion of Hiroshige and Kunisada II prints, a quality exhibition of American and European Modernist prints, a world-class exhibit of Mary Cassatt color etchings, along with an exhibit of Minnie Evans, Claude Howell and Elisabeth Chant.
A strength was that they provided trifolds with details on each of the artists to read while there or later.
There are also some intriguing sculptures on the grounds.
The cafe was closed when we came in, so no rating on that.
Entry was very reasonable. Closed Mondays. Go to www.cameronartmuseum.com to see their calendar.

The Cameron Art Museum has an interesting history (celebrating 50 years in 2012), a permanent collection of some very impressive pieces and artists, and rotating exhibits that surprise, delight, and enlighten. The latest exhibits actually offer a perspective on the living spaces and studios of local artists who have been instrumental in making Wilmington as much of an artists community as it is. There is also a cafe in the museum that has delicious, fresh food for lunch and is open for dinner on Thursdays when the museum is open late. I've visited this museum many times over the years and am always amazed at how the interior spaces are altered depending on the exhibits. Wow. Noticed some of the reviewers have complained about the entrance fee...ummm, this is called supporting the arts. Small price to pay.

If you're near Wilmington, make it a point to stop by this museum. When I was there, they had some amazing exhibits of contemporary art by living women. Yay!!! And they also have a cafe and wonderful gift shop.

It's the major art museum in this part of the state. Unfortunately I have always found it cold and dim and overpriced. Some good exhibits, some disappointing.
