“Great Place. Perfect Location.”
Reviewed June 14, 2012

My husband and I stayed in Room #7 over Memorial weekend and loved it. Very clean, updated, and comfortable. The location can't be beat! It's walking distance to everything, and you feel like you're in the heart of it all. The Inn is next door to a great fondue place where we enjoyed cheese, wine, and live music on their patio.

There's a shared balcony at the Inn for all of the rooms - windows in our room had a clear shot to the balcony so we could see when others were/weren't there. It overlooks the river and is in the perfect location for the sunset. It also overlooks the event space next door, as well as, the patio of the fondue restaurant. While other reviews complained about the noise from weddings and other events we really enjoyed having the ability to sit on the patio, people watch, and listen to live music without leaving our room. The music ends by 10:30, if not sooner, so even if you're bothered by the sound it ends at a reasonable hour.

The photos and descriptions online are accurate. The owners are as visible or invisible as you like. All in all, we're extremely pleased with our visit and would stay at Stemmermann's in the future.

I agree with other reviewers that the location is great, and the staff seems pleasant. BUT... it is neither a Hotel nor a B+B. The walls are paper-thin so we heard lots of our neighbors. We got muffins the first day but they were never replenished. There were cute little bottles of Philosophy shampoo and conditioner on day one, never replenished, so the 3 of us staying here ran through that early on. We were in Room 4 -- lovely room for one or a couple, but for the 3 of us, the TV is upstairs with the bed, not downstairs with the couch and chairs. Just awkward. I would stay again if I wanted to be downtown and were traveling alone, but for me plus kids, I'd pick a different place.

I was married this March in downtown Wilmington and the Stemmerman’s provided a perfect spot for the wedding party and family to stay as we rented out all of the available rooms for the weekend. It also was a wonderful place to get ready for the wedding and we took some amazing artistic pictures in the unique rooms. The Innkeeper and staff at the Stemmerman’s were very attentive and accommodating to our group and the way the rooms were situated allowed for both privacy and camaraderie. It’s a perfect downtown location and friends that have visited many times to Wilmington commented that their stay there was exceptional. Several guests also took advantage of the onsite spa treatments that received rave reviews. The spacious rooms and proximity to many downtown hot spots was a pleasant surprise for many of the out of town guests. I would definitely recommend the Stemmerman’s for downtown wedding parties as well as out of town guests who are looking for a unique experience that a hotel just can’t provide. Kudos to the Stemmerman’s and thanks to everyone there for making my weekend unforgettable!

Room Tip: Room #7 is perfect for the Bride to get ready!

Staying here for a wedding that was held during blinding rainstorm was a lifesaver. We booked all six rooms so the atmosphere was upbeat despite the weather outside. The rooms are each designed with a special flair and unique personality. The location was perfect to run in between the rain drops to get to other activities. The staff was attentive to every need. The character and charm of the rooms is a perfect destination to tour Wilmington! This is truly a find for price and accommodations!

Room Tip: All are great. Since it is an older building sound does travel across the rooms so it is good when...

We booked a room for a 1-night stay - a Monday in late February - to attend the Saw Doctors concert at the Brooklyn Arts Center (a gorgeous old-church-converted-into-event/reception venue; walkable from the hotel). Price was good ($109 for a King; there were cheaper places available nearby), location seemed great (it was!) and the place looked charming, hip and clean (very!). We read on the website that it is not handicap accessible, which we didn't need, but pay attention to info on the site, folks! This place is perfect for physically capable, independent travelers; there are stairs TO your room and IN your room, and there is not a full time front desk attendant, although they DO have an on-site/resident manager who is available via telephone (who also happens to offer spa treatments!). You get a real key, not an electronic card, that allows you to come and go as you please via a separate, well lit entrance. If you are a high-maintenance, room-service type, this place is just not for you, simple as that. Parking was included in our room rate and the parking lot was right across the street. All the of downtown's excitement is practically at your door. My family is in the B&B business, and I've stayed in a lot of Inns...but I've honestly never seen anything quite like it: kudos to this charming, unique model of a place. Only complaints: wi-fi was a tad slow, and skylight made for a very bright, early morning.

I booked the six rooms at the inn for my wedding party the weekend of Dec. 16 and 17. I choose Stemmermans because of the proximity to my wedding venue and downtown restaurants--everything is only a five to 10 minute walk. The space is absolutely amazing and provides a great atmosphere. I loved the exposed brick and lofted bedrooms. The modern fixtures and large shower (in room 7) were great and made me feel right at home. The small kitchenettes and back deck were very nice touches. And the beds were undeniably comfortable. The owners were friendly and the innkeeper, Lindsey, was very nice. We were told when we checked in (and it was also stated on the back of the room doors) that there would be a party there on Saturday night and the noise would stop by 11 p.m. For most of my wedding party, that wasn't an issue as we were out after the wedding enjoying the hot spots in Wilmington. But for my sister and her 3-year-old son, 11 p.m. came and went and the noise didn't stop. The noise went on until almost 12:30 a.m. At the end of the day, I would stay here again and recommend to others that they stay here, but it's a word to the wise that if you're not a late night person, then pick another spot downtown for a weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Room 7 has river views and a king bed.

We loved this place! Right downtown, but noise is not a factor. Charming, fully equipped, two-story suites with living room and kitchenette downstairs and loft bedrooms. Modern facilitles, common outdoor balcony facing the river. We could easily walk to everything. Innkeeper was extremely friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Suite 7 faces the river and has lovely views.
