I absolutely love the battleship. I am a Wilmingtonian and visit the battleship 10-12 times a year. This self-guided tour offers a glimpse of ship life during WWII. There is a 10 minute video that runs every 15 minutes in the front lobby. I highly recommend watching it before you start your tour. Wear comfortable shoes as it is easy to spend a few hours walking through narrow passageways and climbing up and down stairs throughout most levels of the battleship. Be sure to bring a camera, because the photo opportunities are numerous. It should also be noted that the battleship receives no local, state, or federal funds. All monies to run and upkeep the ship comes from admission fees, gift shop profits, donations, and private events (birthday parties and weddings-yes, you could get wed on the decks of the battleship!) So visit and support the battleship for an amazing experience and to ensure it will be here many generations to come!

Love the Battleship and all it stands for. Thankfully they have a suggested tour route to help you see it all. Would have loved maybe some live interpreters to tell some cool stories.

Being on the ship did give us a sense of how difficult life must have been for the sailors when the ship was operational. Liked the ablilty to wander around, but we were disappointed that there was no self-guided headphone tour. This would have given more idea of the sailor's stories and would have made life easier, as the signs often had several people struggling to read them at once. Beware if you are claustrophobic, you are going down steep ladders into spaces that feel quite small. Also you need to be fairly mobile to use the ladders, I also would not have liked to attempt them with small children. I did not see any warning signs about these issues (I might have just missed them). The Battleship is definitely worth a visit as a reminder of the price of freedom.

We went to the Easter Egg hunt first and found that to be poorly planned. There was not to much control over the crowd. We did have a wonderful time on the ship, it is well kept and the history walking through was awesome. I would recommend this to anyone and it was a great experience for the price.

Great opportunity to explore a piece of history. The self-guided tour takes you through several levels on the ship, covering virtually every aspect of life on a battleship. You really can't grasp how immense this ship is until you get on board - and what an engineering feat it is! Allow one hour if your plan is to rush through and just see the various rooms...allow at least two hours if you like to read all the signs (tip: they are worth it.). The shore-side museum gives interesting information on the various ships that have carried the name USS North Carolina through the years, including a Confederate Navy ship. Note: closed Mondays.
