An interesting walk. Some interesting bars and shops. Not many good eating places. Kind of a meat market place at nite.

Thank Paul P

Horrible!!! First, you are crammed to fit into a carriage, the driver ask that you sit you little ones on your lap to fit more people. There are no ghost stories!! Only about 8 corny kindergarten jokes. No information about the ghosts or history of Wilmington. Once you are at the barn (the horse stables) you stay on the carriage and three people poorly act a relocation of Dracula that last about 10 minutes. Only the person acting as Dracula had a costume. Only slightly entraining to the 4 year old group. Same route going to and coming back from the stables. Treats for the kids was cheap candy. Next tour dates are Oct 30th and 31st, don't go. Total rip-off!! $12 for adults and $5 for kids, I would have argued for a refund, but did not want to cause anymore disappoint to my visiting family and kids.

It was suggested we go down to 3rd and Market St. and park our car to take a leisurely stroll through this great historic district. I took pictures of every home that had a historical sign next to it. There must have been some rich people there in the day, The homes are beautiful, though not all are grand, like the Bellamy Mansion. We also investigated the 1808 First Baptist Church, The 1839 St James Episcopal Church, The 1875 Temple of Israel and the 1875 St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. At noon and 5pm all four churches set loose their chimes and it is a beautiful symphony to be there to hear them. Unlike many cities none of these churches were open to be seen inside, kind of a shame. The homes range from 1847 forward and have varying amounts of ornamentation, all are worth a look. It was a great walk through the historical area of Wilmington.

Be sure to walk along the Cape Fear River on the boardwalk and check out the view and shops, especially the Marketplace, an interior "mall" with unique little shops. There is reasonably priced public parking at 2nd St. and Market, and then begin your walk near the Visitor Center and Railroad Museum. When you reach the other end of the boardwalk, head up one street away from the river and continue your walk through the neighborhood of huge houses set among the trees, then along the business district with little shops and restaurants, and then back to your car.

We visited the Historic district on our way to the hotel just outside richmond. We were underwhelmed as it looked rather run down with some nice shops but lots of tattoo parlours and vintage clothes shops.
We wouldn't visit again but maybe we missed something!
